Obituary
Chapman, Marie Irene – 70, of Oxford, passed away at home with her family by her side. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late George and Marguerite (Austin) Rushton.
For many years Marie owned and operated a gas and service station in Oxford along with her husband Jerry, later working at Gordon’s Greenhouse and at Stanfield’s Oxford and Truro, and after her retirement from there she
enjoyed working with the residents and staff Four Seasons Manor in Oxford. Mom was known for her warm personality, welcoming smile, and kitchen where a pot of coffee or tea and a little something sweet could always be found. She enjoyed baking and making holidays and birthdays special for us all. She was so proud of her family, especially her grandchildren. Growing up, her kids and their friends always found an accepting home, and no one ever went away hungry. She hated conflict and always had a special place in her heart for the underdog. Well known for being a quiet, unassuming lady, the last place she enjoyed being was in a crowd. Her happiest moments were spent with family and friends in her home she shared with her doting husband who always did all he could to make her happy, and she for him. Over the years, Mom had any number of activities/hobbies she enjoyed, including cooking/baking, collecting recipe books over the years, pickling and jam making, quilting, knitting/crocheting and cheating at SkipBo. She was an animal lover and would have loved to be a veterinarian in another life. In recent years she was blessed to have close family living nearby and enjoyed their company and support.
Marie is survived by her husband Jerry; daughter, Caroline (Floyd) Sears; son Ross (Shandi); grandchildren, Justin, Matthew and Kendra Sears; Ella and Austin Chapman; brother, Allan Rushton; sisters, Carolyn Rushton; Hannah Boss-Foster; Mary Lou (Pat) Phalen. Predeceased by brother, Robert Rushton; sisters-in-law, Rouie Rushton and Vicky Rushton; brother-in-law’s, Ace Boss and Dick Foster. Mom and the family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful people who work in our local health care teams- EHS, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, our Palliative Care team, Victorian Order of Nurses, and all those who thought of us during this difficult time. Your kindnesses will never be forgotten by us.
Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium. Please join us as we celebrate Marie’s life from 5 pm – 7 pm on November 15 at the Oxford Pioneer Heritage Club, 31 Ellis Street. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
