Marie Anita Gooden Obituary
Marie «Anita» Gooden (nee Hebert) passed peacefully July 29, 2024 in her lake home at Gull Lake.
Born May 16, 1941 in Edmonton, Alberta, Anita was the 6th of 9 children born to Hector Hebert and
Marie Ange Royer.
Anita earned her Registered Nursing Degree in 1966 before marrying Verne Gooden in 1970. They lived
in Mulhurst, Alberta where they welcomed their first son Shannon. Later, they moved to St. Albert,
Alberta where they welcomed daughter Lynn and son Thomas, then moving to Calgary and residing in
the Calgary area.
Anita continued nursing in many clinics and facilities through out her life, retiring in 2006. Her big heart
left an impression on those who knew her. She had a love for animals, especially dogs. Anita loved to
travel; Coast to coast in Canada, several US States, China, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico, just to
name a few. She loved to bake, knit, ceramics, pottery, and spending time in her garden. She even went
skydiving for her 50th birthday!
Anita is preceded in death by her sisters Annette Benner and Germaine Szott; and brothers Ted Hebert and
Ron Hebert. Anita is survived by her husband Verne Gooden; sisters Marie Hesse, Jeannine Lock, and
Simone Carter; brother Bob Hebert; her children Shannon Gooden (Sherry), Lynn Gooden and Thomas
Gooden (Heather); and 11 grandchildren.
A small service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Wheatland Funeral Home (202 Lakeside Blvd, Strathmore) at 11:00 am. Following the service there will be a gathering at Lambert Park (across the street from Wheatland Funeral Home).
