On May 31, 2024, Heaven welcomed our beloved mother, Maria Rigon (Nonna Maria). Waiting for her with open arms was her husband and love of her life, Angelo, whom she so deeply missed for the past nine years. Maria left this earth peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 87.
Mom was the beloved and devoted wife of 52 years to our father Angelo (2015). Loving mother of Mary-Lou (Michael) Pollon of Timmins; Eddy Rigon of Sudbury and Joanne (Jean St. Onge) Rigon of Stittsville. Cherished Nonna of Michaela and Matthew Pollon and Sebastien Rigon- St. Onge, who were her pride and joy.
She will be sorely missed by her brother Victor (Barbara) Rinaldi. Dear sister-in-law of Luigia (late Francesco) Meneghetti and Adelina (late Lino) Penzin of Treviso, Italy. Mom is now reunited with her parents GioBatta and Angelina Rinaldi, her parents-in-law Giacinto and Cristina, her brothers Rinaldo (Frances), Germano (Margherita) and sister Rosina (late Bruno) Rinaldi. Also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Guido (Guilia), Olivo (late Irma), Angela (late Francesco) Mazoni, Maria (late Giovanni) Renosto all of Treviso, Italy. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Canada, USA and Italy.
Mom was born in Sedegliano, Udine, Italy. She immigrated to Canada by ship in 1959 at the age of 22 with her family, settling in Timmins, Ontario. Being a talented seamstress, she started her career at Olive Thomson Shoppe on Third Avenue, tailoring wedding gowns until starting a family.
Mom and Dad met at the Peacock Garden restaurant over coffee and were later married in 1963. After raising her family, Mom worked at the Porcupine Dante Club for over 30 years as a Hostess in the banquet halls. Maria was well-known for her bright smile and big hugs. She had a strong work ethic and a gift for making everyone feel welcome and special. After retiring at the young age of 76, she continued to volunteer in the kitchen into her mid 80’s. Mom’s greatest pleasures were caring for her family, making lasagnas and tending to her vegetable garden. She was a proud 60-year member of the Porcupine Dante Club and a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.
Many that met our sweet and adorable Mom (Nonna) wanted to adopt her as their own. Mom (Nonna) was deeply loved, and we will miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank all the medical professionals at TDH and HSN who supported and cared for Mom in the last month. Special thanks to Dr. Li, Marnie Chisholm N.P., Bayshore Health Team, and Personal Support Workers for your care and compassion.
The family will welcome friends on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the LESSARD Funeral and Cremation Centre. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11am at Sacred Heart Church with an interment to follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. For those wishing, remembrance donations to Timmins and District Hospital or Sacred Heart Church would be gratefully appreciated.
