Obituary of Marg Sinclair
Margaret Sinclair of Aylmer, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the age of 86. Marg was reunited with her late husband, Dr. Duncan W. Sinclair, who passed away on October 26, 2023. She was the devoted mother of Kathy Sinclair from Ladner, British Columbia, Jane Knauer (Jeff) from Ladner, British Columbia, and Duncan Sinclair (Dana) from Aylmer. Cherished grandmother to Ben and Meghan, and lovingly called «Mammy» by Coll. Dear sister-in-law to Mary Stickel (late Charles) and Don Sinclair (Betty). She was preceded in death by her son David in 1970 and her brother Bruce Scandrett (late Sal).
Born in London, Ontario, on October 8, 1937, Marg was the daughter of Ben and Ida (Cunningham) Scandrett. She obtained her teaching degree from the London Teachers College. During Dunc’s pursuit of a medical degree, Marg taught at Chesley Avenue P.S. from 1957 to 1963. Following a move out west for Dunc’s medical practice, Marg taught at Capilano Elementary P.S. before settling in Aylmer in 1965. Her teaching career played a crucial role in supporting Dunc’s education and the establishment of his practice.
Marg was the cornerstone of her family, creating a loving and nurturing environment. With boundless love and tireless hands, she managed household responsibilities while supporting Dunc’s practice and raising their family. Her commitment, often unseen, left an indelible mark on her family. She crafted a home where love formed the foundation, and her role was integral to the family’s heartbeat. Marg was not only a supporter of her children, but later became a cheerleader for her grandchildren, always keen to learn about their endeavors in school, work, and play. Together with Dunc, she enthusiastically traveled southwestern Ontario, cheering on Coll in hockey and baseball.
Marg found strength in her companionship and love with Dunc throughout their 63 years of marriage. She stood by him, encouraging and cheering him on in caring for the community. Marg actively participated in volunteering and community involvement, co-founding Aylmer Wetland Susies and the Aylmer Performing Arts Council. She was a dedicated member of the Aylmer Baptist Church, contributing to the Dr. Dorothy Timpany Mission Circle and the W.A., and volunteered for the VON Meals on Wheels. In her leisure time, Marg enjoyed cruising with her friends while Dunc pursued his hunting interests. She was a valued member of the Aylmer Ladies Breakfast Club and always looked forward to gatherings with her friends.
