Peggy’s Obituary
Margret Bardeau, Age 79 of Tatamagouche. It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother Margret Karen “Peggy” (Street) Bardeau following a 30 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Mom passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2023 in The Willow Lodge Home For Special Care in Tatamagouche.
Born on May 18th, 1943 in Toronto, she was daughter of the late Luella Street and Arthur Peck. Mom attended Thornhill High School where she excelled in Track & Field, winning several trophies. Upon completion of high school she had a career in clerical work.
Mom and Dad met in Richmond Hill and married in 1963. With Dad in the military they moved East and settled in Nova Scotia where they raised their children just outside Dartmouth in Gaetz Brook.
Upon Dad’s retirement in 1984, they moved to New Annan just outside Tatamagouche where they enjoyed country living on a hobby farm. With her children grown, Mom pursued a new career and became a registered social worker. In the late 80’s she began working at Third Place in Truro as a counsellor for victims of family violence, and later becoming office manager and acting co-director.
Mom loved animals and never turned away a stray. She enjoyed all of the cats, dogs, birds , goats and horses she cared for over the years. Her love of animals was obvious to anyone who knew her.
Mom had a creative side and enjoyed crocheting, painting and drawing. She also had a green thumb, loved gardening and you’d often find her singing or whistling while she worked.
Diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease in the 1990’s, Mom faced it head on with great courage and determination. She became a long term resident of Lynwood House at The Willow Lodge in 2011 where she received tremendous love, care and support from the wonderful staff.
Left with a lifetime of loving memories are her daughters Michelle (Steven) Munroe of Lake Echo, NS; Nicole Townsend (Kevin East) Quispamsis, NB and son Dale Bardeau, Churchill, MB. Also surviving are her sister Elizabeth “Betty” (Ray) Luff and brother Arthur (Wendy) Street, both of Barrie, ON and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her Grandchildren Jarrett Munroe, Logan Munroe and Elliott Townsend and an unborn great grandchild due March 2023.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Eugene Charles Marshall Bardeau in 2012.
Memorial donations may be made to the Willow Lodge Home for Special Care. A special thank you to all the staff past and present who cared for our mother over the years.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Coulter’s Funeral Home in Tatamagouche on Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at 2pm with Rev. Natalie Buchanan Rutherford officiating. The service will also be live-streamed. Interment will take place at a later date at Bell Gift Cemetery, West New Annan.
