Margaret Rose Smith (nee Peters)
Margaret passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour on December 29,
2023, at the age of 79. We rejoice with her as she is finally free of the burdens of her earthly life and is now
joyfully living in her eternal home.
Margaret is survived by her husband of more than 58 years, Garry and her daughter Linda
(Robin) Roberts as well as her sisters MaryAnne Wiebe and Shirley (Albert) Gentes and
her brothers Edward Peters, Abe (Mathilda) Peters, Harold (Martha) Peters and Dave
(Helen) Peters and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents John & Elizabeth Peters, her twin sister Grace
Friesen, her sister Ruth Nickel and several in-laws.
Margaret was born and raised in Winkler, Manitoba and later moved to Roseau River
where she grew up on the family farm. At the age of 16 she left home to work in various
jobs to help to provide for her family at home. In 1965 she married her husband, Garry,
and had one daughter. In 1988, her and Garry moved to the Okanagan in British Columbia
and enjoyed many years together exploring their new home.
In her early years, Margaret gave her life to Jesus and served Him faithfully. In 2012, she
was baptized by immersion as a public confession of her faith and love for her Lord.
One of Margaret’s passions was gardening. She loved to grow vegetables and flowers, but
was always sure to have beautiful roses flourishing. She also enjoyed helping people and
volunteered in the hair salon at Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna. Margaret had a
generous and giving heart always willing to lend a hand.
In her latter years as she suffered the effects of dementia, the Lord used her to be a blessing
to many of her caregivers. Margaret will be dearly missed by her family and by those who
knew her and cared for her, but our memories of our time with her will be of great comfort
in the days ahead.
A warm and heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna,
BC particularly the Ellison Community for your patient and loving care of Margaret. You
have been a blessing to Margaret and her family. There will be no service.
A private graveside remembrance with the family will be held at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, your donation to the Kelowna Gospel Mission in Margaret’s memory is
appreciated.
