Margaret Janet (Jardine) Romcke
1930-2024
Margaret Janet Romcke passed away peacefully at the Queen
Elizabeth Hospital on October 25, 2024, surrounded by her family. A
resident of Charlottetown, Margaret lived a vibrant 94 years, bringing
joy, laughter, and warmth to all who knew her.
Margaret was
the beloved mother of Janet (Bill) Nearing of Halifax, NS, Barbara
Romcke (Stephen Levy) of Toronto, ON, and David Romcke of PEI. She was
a cherished grandmother to her granddaughters Megan (Wilco), Heather
(Nick), Laura (Anthony), Ally, and Jessica (Leo), and a proud
«GG» to her two beautiful great-grandchildren, Lucas
(Heather and Nick) and Della (Laura and Anthony), whose visits she
delighted in over the past year.
Margaret leaves behind her dear sisters, Isabel
Bruce and Rebecca Kalbfleisch of Waterloo, ON, and her sister-in-law,
Janie Jardine of Collingwood, ON. She was predeceased by her husband,
Robert «Bob» Romcke, her adored brother, Fred, and
her parents, Ingham and Earith (Sinclair) Jardine.
A devoted member of St. James Presbyterian
Church, Margaret filled her days with games of bridge, gardening,
quilting, travel, and gatherings with her extended PEI family. She
never tired of reminiscing about her family days at French River. Her
favourite expressions, «oh, go way with you,»
«from away,» and «you people»,
will continue to be quoted in her honour, bringing smiles and memories
to her family for years to come.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the
doctors, nurses, and staff at Andrews of Charlottetown and the Queen
Elizabeth Hospital’s Unit 8 for their compassionate and
exemplary care.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hennessey
Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating
Margaret’s life will be held on Friday, November 1st at 2:30
p.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital or St. James Presbyterian Church.
Margaret’s generous spirit, humor, and love of family will
be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing
her.
