MARGARET ANN GAUNDROUE
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Gaundroue, who departed this life on October 25, 2024, at Grace Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.
At the age of 69, Margaret leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion.
Her children, Jennifer (Dwayne) and Robbie (Ruth), along with her beloved grandchildren Julianna (Jenessa) and Ethan, will forever hold her close in their hearts.
Additionally, she is mourned by a multitude of friends who were more like family, each carrying a piece of her spirit within them.
Born in Portage La Prairie, Margaret’s childhood was marked by the transient life of a military family, moving from province to province due to her father’s service. Nevertheless, she embraced each new place with an open heart and an adventurous spirit.
In her early years, Margaret dedicated herself to the Girl Guides of Canada, arranging camps for single parents and their children, showcasing her deep commitment to community and family. Her philanthropy extended to various animal rescues, reflecting her enduring passion for nurturing and protecting all living beings.
Nature was her sanctuary, and she found joy in the serenity of Assiniboine Park, where she often sought solace in the beauty that surrounded her.
Margaret was not only a mother and a friend but also a warrior who bravely battled breast cancer for nearly 24 years. Her unwavering strength and courage in the face of adversity served as a profound inspiration to all who knew her.
Despite the trials she faced, Margaret remained one of positivity and faith.
Her radiant smile had the power to illuminate the darkest days, and her nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family to all those privileged to be part of her life. She had an unparalleled gift for lifting others up, using her experience to provide comfort and support to those navigating their own challenges.
As we navigate this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Harris, Leslie, Andrea, and the entire team at Cancer Care (Grace Hospital) for the vital role they played in Margaret’s life and for holding a special place in her heart.
We would also like to thank the palliative nurses and staff at Riverview Health Center for their compassion during her care.
Our deepest thanks go to the dedicated team at Grace Hospice, who made Margaret’s final days as comfortable and beautiful as possible, enveloping her in love when we could not be there.
In honor of Margaret’s wishes, there will not be a formal service; instead, we encourage everyone to cherish their loved ones a little more, to make time for one another, and to practice kindness in their daily lives.
In lieu of flowers, we invite those who wish to commemorate her life to consider making a donation of time or resources to any of the following organizations: Cancer Care Foundation, Winnipeg Pet Rescue, Assiniboine Park Zoo, Children’s Hospital, Siloam Mission, Health Science Center Foundation, Wildlife Haven, Agape Table, or Winnipeg Harvest. Margaret’s spirit will live on through the kindness we extend to others and the love we share in her memory.
