Obituary of Marcos Samuel Sayson McLean
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Marcos Samuel Sayson McLean, which occurred on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 at home with his family.
Marcos was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on April 30th, 2007. He is the son of Robert and Emma (Sayson) McLean and a big brother of Kayla and Sophia. In addition to his parents and sisters, he is survived by his grandmother, Carolyn Condon McLean and Monty, Mimi and Bella our precious pets. Marcos is also survived by Richard and Hazel (Tolentino) McLean and their children Ella, Egan and Elias; Eduardo and Mary Jean (Nama) and their son, William Sayson; uncles and aunties residing in Toronto, Cheng and Cora Sayson and Ray and Mila (Sayson) Martin and their respective families; all uncles, aunties and cousins in the Philippines, Lorenzo and Shirly (Ogayon) Sayson and their children; Benjohn (deceased), Ceferina Gregoria (Sayson) Llaneza and her children; Benito Sayson and his children; Paulino and Maria (Satuito) Sayson and their children; Regina Sayson and her adopted son, Bal; Augustin and Donna (Boncodin) Sayson and their children; Santiago and Ophelia ale Sayson and their children and Ronald Sayson and his children. Marcos also leaves behind countless friends and Judo families.
He was predeceased by grandparents, Robert (Bob) McLean and Juan and Sonia Sayson (Philippines); great grandparents, Ellen Blakney and Samuel Condon and Royden and Helen McLean.
Marcos attended Kennebecasis Valley High School where he was completing his grade 11 year. He had a passion for judo, which was graciously shared with his family. Although he had an undeniable natural athletic ability, he would never admit it and would humbly decline compliments.
When not focusing on his studies or judo, he spent his time reading and drawing. He had the aspiration of becoming an architect and even planned to join his cousin, William, at Dalhousie University.
Marcos accomplished so much in his short life. He loved swimming and completed his ALG, bronze cross and national lifeguarding courses. He also competed in national tournaments and achieved a brown belt in judo. He spent some time volunteering at the judo club, where he would assist in teaching the younger generation of judokas.
Everywhere he went, Marcos preferred to be accompanied by the sounds of music. He was often caught dancing in the kitchen while cleaning for his mom, making everyone chuckle, as he would be wearing headphones and nobody else could hear the music but him. He was a big fan of Lana Del Ray and Billie Eilish and would have songs like, “Dark Paradise” and “What Was I Made For” on repeat. When spending the summer days sailing the Kennebecasis River, Marcos and his dad would often bond over Jimmy Buffet’s greatest hits playing on the speakers. He would also sometimes accompany his dad in picking up new trucks and even planned on travelling in the coming weeks to Toronto to help collect a new work truck.
Marcos adored his sisters from the moment they arrived. Every day, he made sure to spend time brushing Sophia’s hair while debriefing about their day. He always had a great sense of style and would always be willing to help Kayla with her daily outfits and even allowed her to borrow his own clothes. He was very particular in his attire and loved shopping at Simons clothing wear and Zumiez. When he walked into the room, you were immediately met with a warm and comforting smell, as he always made sure to dress himself in the best colognes.
Holidays were so special to Marcos. He was ecstatic to spend time with family and friends, and feast on delicious meals and nana’s special fruitcake. Christmas was particularly special for him, for he enjoyed setting up all the decorations and waking up to open presents with his sisters around the Christmas tree. He was always so grateful for everything he got and loved to help pick out presents with his sister and dad for his mom, so she had something special to open on the day.
Above all, Marcos was a very kindhearted, wonderful soul, that would show limitless love to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will take place on Sunday, April 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Monday, April 22nd from 2-4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay on Tuesday, April 23rd at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow the interment downstairs in the church hall. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the KV Oasis Youth Centre or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
