Mabel Biggar Obituary
Born July 7, 1929, in Enderby, BC, Mabel Alice Biggar (nee Emeny), peacefully passed away on June 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication.
Affectionately known as «Spooky ol’ Alice,» she was the youngest of five siblings, predeceased by her two brothers, Frank and Jimmy, and her two sisters, Jean and Grace.
As a young woman, Alice joined the RCAF in France, where she met her one true love, Ronald Frederick Travis Biggar. The two married and returned to Richmond Hill, Ontario, to start their family. Alice and Ronald (the latter of whom passed in 1980), were blessed with four children: Brian (and Cindi) now in the US, Ronnie (and Scott) in PEI, Gary (and Yvonne) in Cambridge, and Kelly (and Mindy) in Owen Sound.
The family moved frequently due to Ronald’s employment, living in Tsawwassen, BC, and Bramalea, Ontario, before settling permanently in Owen Sound in 1976 with the arrival of Monroe Auto Equipment. Alice was a proud grandmother to Tyler, Evan, Hannah, Adam, and Olivia, and a great-grandmother to Max and Twyla. She was also a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews across the country.
Alice was a woman of many talents and interests. A skilled seamstress, she was also an avid bowler, curler, and golfer. She loved playing cards, deep-sea fishing and enjoyed watching baseball and hockey games. In her earlier years, she loved sunning by the pool and on the beach. Alice was known for her generosity, making countless quilts, needlepoint pieces, and knitted garments for various charities throughout her life.
A special thank you to Betty Armstrong and family who’ve been friends of Alice’s for 50+ years! Also, to the staff of Seasons Retirement Home in Owen Sound for their tireless and dedicated care. Thanks also to the staff at Summit Place and Brightshores Hospital for their support.
As an expression of sympathy and in Memory of Alice, charitable donations in lieu of flowers are appreciated; please reach out to the Red Cross, The Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
A private ceremony will take place in the near future.
Alice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
