Lynn Fleet
1958-2023
If you are reading this it is because I, Lynn Ann Fleet, have
left this world on March 29, 2023 at the Palliative Care Unit of the
Aberdeen Hospital, leaving this world quietly and at peace while
listening to the music of my favorite singer and songwriter, Garth
Brooks.
I was born July 28, 1958 the oldest of Jean (Martin) and
Irvine Fleet’s five children. It was a busy home and well we didn’t
have things handed to us, we did have everything we
needed.
I had a fun filled childhood spent with the many neighborhood
kids, especially Carolyn Humphreys, Holly Scott and Darlene Allain. I
was welcomed into their homes and made to feel a part of their
families. If I wasn’t with one of them, I could be found with my nose
in a book. Reading was a passion from an early age and one I enjoyed
to the end.
Another passion was music. Listening to records, going to
concerts and bars to hear live music. I was lucky enough to meet many
artists, some who became dear friends. The highlight was getting to
see my musical hero Garth Brooks in concert, thanks to my
sister.
Volunteering was something I started doing in elementary
school; canvassing for various organizations, as well as
local festivals and charities. Thanks to a political science class, I
discovered a love of politics and began a long involvement with a
political party both provincially and federally for almost 20 years.
Through my involvement I met my sports hero, Bobby Orr, a couple of
Prime Ministers and a handsome prince, Prince Andrew. I also spent
several years doing various jobs while volunteering with some local
hockey teams.
A love of cats was another thing I shared with my mother
having several over the years that were loved and spoiled, none more
than my all black cat, Onyx whom I adored.
In 1995 our family’s world was changed drastically
when Mom suffered a near fatal brain aneurysm. Despite the deficits
she was left with, we were grateful she was still with us. Our lives
were all changed, but we were so very lucky to have 25
«bonus» years before her passing in May,
2020.
I have had a good life and I am leaving this world at
peace.
I am survived by my father Irvine, Pictou; and my siblings:
Douglas, Halifax, Ian, New Glasgow, Bruce and Donna, Trenton; my
much-loved nieces and nephews: David (Josee) Rockey, Montreal, Emily
Fleet and Madison Fleet, Thorburn, Matthew (Cassie Lincoln) Fleet and
baby Finn, MacLellans Brook and Embry (formerly Jenny Lynn) Fleet,
Thorburn. Also survived by sisters-in-law: Tracy MacGregor Fleet,
Stellarton and Kathy Cameron Fleet, Thorburn, and numerous aunts,
uncles and cousins.
I would like to thank my medical team: Dr. A. Jeyakumar, Dr.
Jerry Farrell, Dr. Pat Craig and the girls in the Chemo lab. My
Palliative Care team: Dr. Anne Kwasnik, Dr. Robert Horton, Cindy
Kincaid and Rachel Kincaidas well as Kelsey MacDonald Smith, Music
Therapist and ray of sunshine.
There will be no visitation or service at Lynn’s
request. Donations may be made to Carma Pictou Co., Kitten Suites, the
Pictou Co. SPCA or the Kinette Club of New Glasgow. Arrangements have
been entrusted to the care of R.H. Porter Funeral Home,
Trenton.
