Obituary
Passed on
Peacefully surrounded by loved ones, Luanne Mounk passed away unexpectedly at St. Boniface Hospital on September 18, 2024
Mom is survived by loving husband Murray, daughters Michelle and Rachel, sons Jeff (Jessica) and Stevens, stepchildren Andrea (Julian) and Nick. Grandchildren Max, Leah, Brynn, Aubrey, Elle, Callen, Joey, siblings Dale, Glen, Dennis, niece Amy (Brian) and nephew Chris.
Predeceased by father Maurice and Mother Doreen and many feline friends.
Born Nov 24th, 1960, in Thunder Bay Ontario, Mom’s love for animals was evident at an early age. She would try to adopt cats, dogs, and rabbits, however much to her chagrin her father would not allow her to keep them.
In the summer of 1976, the family moved to Fort Frances Ontario. Mom showed her independence by choosing to stay in Thunder Bay to finish school. She graduated from Hammerskjold High School.
After graduation Mom moved to Fort Frances. She had worked and saved to backpack through Europe alone. Mom was very independent even as a teen.
After extensive travelling Mom would settle in Winnipeg Manitoba. In 1982 she became the proud mom of daughter Michelle, followed by Rachel in 1983 and Jeff in 1985. Our brother Steven joined the family in 1997 at our home in Wolseley.
A proud single Mom she had always put her children’s needs before her own. She took us on many camping trips and supported us immensely in every way imaginable.
In 1982 Mom had a chance encounter with Ray and Barb Hignall along with son Brad. This meeting would ignite the start of a home daycare that ran for 18 years. Many of the relationships built continued to the present day. This provided her with the ability to raise her family in a beautiful home.
In 1999 Mom decided to finally do something for herself and attend the University of Manitoba. This was to follow her dream of becoming a social worker. She would often bump into her daughter Michelle on campus.
Mom spent most of her career at the Louis Riel School division until retirement in December of 2023. A giving and caring nature would enable her to go above and beyond. This included children and families for whom she provided service. Her LRSD colleague and friend Lynne also became a travel buddy.
In 2009 Mom became Grandma with both daughters giving birth within a two-month span. Being a grandmother came natural to her extending the same love and unwavering support she had shown her children.
In 2013 Mom went on a blind date with the love of her life Murray. They bonded quickly over their love of travel, family, and beaches. They saw the world together on dream vacations. This culminated in a four-month trip through Asia, that she planned on her own. They settled in Matlock Manitoba which they had visited on their third date. They planned to spend retirement near the water.
Mom and Murray tied the knot on April 29th, 2024, in a personal ceremony on a beach in Bali.
Growing up with three brothers, Mom would come to love sports. A huge fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, she had season tickets for years. Mom also had a love for gardening, her flowers even won an award. Her lilies were known by many.
Being the giving person she was Mom of course had a huge love for Christmas. She was also known for volunteering often without any recognition.
She touched the lives of many people, and the family is appreciative of the outpouring of support being expressed.
Big thanks to Stars Ambulance and the staff at the ACCU unit of St. Boniface Hospital. The care and compassion received was excellent. Also, thanks to Ken Loehmer for his continued support.
A celebration of life will be held at Winakwa Community Club in Winnipeg Manitoba on October 4th 2024 at 2:00 pm.
