It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lowell Merland Gullickson on November 9, 2024, in Hinton, Alberta.
Born on November 17, 1952, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Lowell was the cherished son of Clifford and Carrie Gullickson. He was welcomed home by his older brother Ron and later came more siblings, Cheryl, Laverne, and Marilyn.
Lowell began his education in a one-room schoolhouse just two miles from the family farm. In 1963, he and his siblings traveled by bus to Star City for grades 7 through 11 and he graduated grade 12 from the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, Saskatchewan.
A dedicated worker from a young age, Lowell contributed significantly to the family farm, assisting with chores, projects and equipment repairs. After high school, he moved to Hinton in 1971, where he initially worked in stuccoing before joining the pulp mill. Over more than 30 years, he progressed from working in the bush to becoming a skilled heavy-duty mechanic, earning many certifications along the way.
In Hinton, he met Sydney Warren, and they were married in 1972. Their son, Justin, was born in April 1973. After separating, Justin moved to Saskatchewan with his mother. In 1980, Lowell married Bonny Hill and their son, Clayton, was born in October 1984. Lowell was a devoted father to both boys and played a positive role in their lives. He was also a loving father-in-law to Heather, Justin’s partner. Bonny passed away in 2006.
In a testament to his caring nature, Lowell served as a trustee and caregiver for his sister-in-law, Kim Hill, who battled early-onset dementia. He welcomed her into his home for several years until her needs required full-time care in a facility.
In 2019, Lowell found love again with Roberta Cuzzocrea. Together, they cherished moments in the hanging chairs in their “enchanted room”. They enjoyed swimming, fishing, looking for rocks, going for drives, picnics, and fires in the back yard. He took pleasure in repairing things around Roberta’s house while she prepared meals for them.
Lowell was a proud grandfather to Ethan, Riley and Jordan. He was a good friend to many in his community, sharing his artistic talents and always ready to lend a hand or assist with a project.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
