Backman, Louise
Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Freeport Campus Hospital on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the age of 66 years.
Beloved wife and best friend of Bronson McWhirter. Cherished mother of Jason and Lisa (Shari DeCaire) and step-mother of Lauri (Terry) Pedlow. Adored Grammie of Quinn and Robin DeCaire “her fluffs”; and Gramma Lou to Brendan and Emma Backman and Jase and Jaryd Pedlow. Special friend to Rick DeCaire “Papa”. Survived by her sister Sandra (Martin) Williams. Louise will be deeply missed by her beloved “furry fluff” Sophie.
Predeceased by her first husband Angus Backman (2016) and parents Eric and Lorna Torppa.
Louise was everyone’s rock and special person. She was a longtime resident of Thunder Bay where she spent a majority of her life until her move to Elmira in 2017 to be closer to her family. She loved her time at the cottage on Loon Call Lake. She was hard working, loyal, loved to laugh and had a zest for life.
Following Louise’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Center and made through the funeral home.
