Obituary
On Sept 11, 2023, the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Blue Jays lost their biggest fan.
Lorrie passed peacefully in care at the William J. Cadzow – Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre.
He was a kind-hearted, hard-working, jokester who could always make a person laugh.
Inside the glove box of Lorrie’s truck, you could always find stack of George Jones CD’s, his favourite singer. «I don’t need your rockin’ chair» was Lorrie’s theme song. Dedicated to his career, Lorrie worked into his late 70’s in the oil and gas industry. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment in the bush clearing leases and maintaining the machines. Lorrie was that guy you can count on to answer a call in the middle of the night to rescue a sunken CAT from a half-frozen muskeg.
He always looked forward to sitting around a table bullshitting with his coffee buddies, where the conversation was as strong as the brew. His friends knew that if they needed a good laugh or a tall tale, Lorrie was the man to go to.
His pastimes included playing his guitar with family and friends, singing karaoke in the basement, hunting for moose, watching the Oilers and Jays, and fishing for pickerel – most of the time he’d come home skunked but he always claimed to have lost one that was «this big». Lorrie’s appetite was big yet simple. Perogies with sausage or a roast with mashed potatoes swimming in gravy was top of menu – served with extra butter on a bun and whipping cream on his slice of cake, he claimed it was «good for the joints!».
Lorrie survived by his loving partner Vivian Bourque, children Candace and Clayton, grandchildren Waylon and Holly. Sisters: Helen (Gordon), Clara, Lucy, and Elizabeth. Brothers: Tom and Metro (Natalie), former spouse, Lorraine and daughters Lenora, Lori, and Lilly and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lorrie is predeceased by his parents Arthur & Katie Mihalcheon, sisters Mary, Anne, Doris, and Marjorie, brothers Nick, Sandy, Willy, and Bobby. Lorrie laughter and light-hearted sense of humor will be dearly missed. We can almost hear him now, joking and sharing stories with the angels above. May he rest in eternal laughter and peace.
