Lorraine Rogers Obituary
Lorraine Rogers
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Vera Rogers on Thursday May 30, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born March 25, 1930 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland, Lorraine was the daughter of the late William and Emily Jean (Downton) Pearcey. She is survived by a sister Jackie Bragg, brother David (Alice) Pearcey, and by her children; William (Joanne) Rogers, Sheila (William) Munro, Jacqueline Rogers and Donna MacRae, as well as her grandchildren; Tanya Rogers (Corey), Yvette Rogers, Robert Munro (Diane), Roger Munro (Lisa), Chad Munro (Shauna), Danielle Clyke, Neal John MacRae (Mairin), Rebecca MacRae, Rachel MacRae (Stephen), Luke MacRae (Jessica), Arthur Whitty (Tammy), Matthew Whitty (Holly), a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friend Don Fiander.
Besides her parents Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Luke Rogers, brothers William, Joseph, Kenneth, Robert, and James, sisters Margaret, Kathleen, and Rose; she was also predeceased by her brother and sisters in law, Henry Rogers (Margaret), Rita Hillier (Cecil), and Mary Rose (Russell).
Lorraine was a loving wife and mother who put the care and needs of her children and husband first. She was, firstly, a homemaker, a great cook and baker who prepared healthy meals, and who always could be found in an apron. She was an avid crafts person who could sew, knit, quilt, make ceramics, and the like, always to perfection.
After her family had grown, she worked for several years at Woolco, in the yard goods department, which fit perfectly with her sewing skills. She loved her flowers and plants, as well as gardening. Some of her favorite activities were camping, picnics, family outings, playing cards and bingo with friends. She was a dedicated volunteer her entire life with the church, the community, the seniors club, the Northside Guest Home, and canvasing for charities. One of her passions, along with her husband Luke, was attending the Harness races in North Sydney, Sydney, Inverness, and Charlottetown.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff of the Northside General and The Cape Breton Regional Hospitals for their care over the years and during her final days. We would like to thank her family doctor in particular, Dr John Kirkpatrick, who gave her exceptional care making frequent house calls over the years.
Visitation for Lorraine will be held 7-9 pm Wednesday June 5th in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday June 6th at St John the Baptist Anglican Church, King St, North Sydney with Rev Debbie Fice officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St John the Baptist Anglican Church or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com .
