Lois Ann was born to Phyllis (Devlin) Jerome and Joseph L Jerome in Kingston, Ontario. Pre-deceased by her sister Marjorie Jean Thompson (Paul), brothers Stewart and James (Barrie) Jerome, son Peter and daughter Juliette. Cherished Mother of Michael (Marsha), Peter (Cory), Juliette, Nancy, Jeffrey (Julie), Mary Lou Turner and John David. Beloved Grandmother to Leslie, Jeffrey, Paul (Kim), Kevin (Lindsay), Scott (Rosie), Jennifer (Rick), Michael (Ana), Sara (Tayte), Dan (Angela), Matthew (Annick), Jessica (Leo), Amy, Andrew (Jennifer), Chris (Heather), Dylan (Kyra), Myles (Emily) and Tess (Harry). Loving Great Grandmother to Michael, Claire, Laura, Kaitlin, Alex, Anna, Andrew, Simon, William, Reid, Lucy, Nixon, Allie, Maya, Wilder, Maggie, Charlie, Nora, Connor, Zachary, Xavier, Genevieve, Douglas, Stephanie, Lola, and Louie. Dear Auntie of Mary Lou (Al), Paul, Jim, Megan (Mike), Joey (deceased), Susan (deceased), Marnie, John David (deceased), Patsy (Mike), Peter (Barb) and Mary Jo (Mike).
Lois Ann was known for her deep love of family and friends. She was gracious, charming, and hospitable to all who entered her orbit, and had a warm way of connecting and drawing all closer, making friends with ease. She was admired for her flair with fashion; her elegance defined her. She was fun to be around, loved to laugh, enjoyed listening and telling stories, liked a good joke and her favourite activity was anything social. A stickler for grammar, punctuation, spelling and manners, she would not hesitate to correct us when mistakes were made. Everyone learned to take off their baseball hats when she was present. Throughout her life, she delighted in listening to good music, attending concerts of jazz, piano, and bands of all kinds. In her eighties, she insisted on sitting on a loudspeaker in order to catch a better glimpse of her grandchildren’s rock band. She liked the theatre and musicals. She was proud that in her childhood she was an excellent skater on tube skates, could ride a bike and roller skate, and was a champion at playing jacks. As a young woman she bowled and curled. She enjoyed a lively game of bridge. She was a voracious reader and just finished reading Spare. She was a faithful fan of Jeopardy for decades, accurately answering many questions and she loved to watch Alex Trebek with family. She followed current events and worried about children and families in the world when disaster struck. She worked for the CIBC in both Toronto and London, retiring after decades. She conquered the challenges of working on a computer as a stenographer and used email to stay in touch with those far afield until very recently.
Lois Ann McHardy was a lover of people and life and she was an amazing matriarch of her clan. She gave from her heart, all that she could, which was more than enough. Special thanks to Dr Stephen Wegener and the team for their excellent care and kindness. Visitation will be held at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Thursday, March 9, from 4 to 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church, 511 Cheapside Street on Friday morning, March 10 at 11 am.
