With sadness, we announce the death of Liz Lindsay. She died peacefully on Friday the 13th of October 2023 in the Palliative Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. She was 93 years old.
Liz was predeceased by the love of her life, Joe, in 2008. She also deeply missed her daughter, Susan DeNure, who died in 2011.
Liz is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Jane and Marty Holski and Carol and Brian (Coop) Cooper. Jane and Carol are thankful for the loving support provided by their brother-in-law Ray DeNure and his wife Judy.
Liz loved her grandchildren and their spouses: Chris Holski, Andrew and Rebecca DeNure, Simon and Katie DeNure, Carly DeNure and Dina Bendik, and Oliver and Sabine DeNure, Matthew and Jennifer Cooper, and Michael Cooper and Sam Finander. There are also countless people who knew her as “Grandma Liz”, and she loved that.
She delighted in her great grandchildren: William, Lucas, Aria, Emmett, Oliver and Charlotte.
She is survived by her sister, Anne Louise Stark. Her siblings: Trevor, Bruce and Jane predeceased her. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Sandra and Tom Runk provided Liz with much TLC and support during her time in Lindsay. She could not have managed without them.
Throughout her life, Liz lived in many places and in each she made friends with whom she maintained contact over the years. Of all her places, Oxtongue Lake was her favourite. The community filled her life with purpose and joy. Facebook and email were blessings to her as she connected and reconnected with family and friends! Dorothy Stewart was a steadfast friend during Liz’s time at Adelaide Place in Lindsay.
Liz was the daughter of Trevor and Mary Thompson. Trevor was a founding member of Kin Canada, making Liz an original Kin Kid. Liz was an Elspeth Rogers Life Member and a Hal Rogers Fellow. She was very proud of these Kin honours.
In her final years, Liz endured several difficult health issues. We are grateful for the support of the staff of Adelaide Place in Lindsay and ParaMed PSWs who made efforts to make things easier for her to bear. The care that Liz received in the Palliative Care Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital was outstanding. She referred to them as her angels.
There will be no formal service. Liz’s daughters would deeply appreciate it if you would make a donation in her memory to a charity of your choice or to one of her favourite charities Susan DeNure Sports Program BGC Kawartha Lakes click here or Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation click here. Then, don a piece of clothing that has some of her favourite colour (yellow) or Blue Jays blue, pour a favourite beverage (possibly around 3:00 pm EST) and toast her memory. Liz would be fine if you did this every day.
