Obituary of Lillian Eva Gregory
On November 2, 2022, Lillian Gregory passed away at the age of 74 at Gimli Betel Personal Care Home. To cherish her memory are daughters Cynthia, Rhea-Lynn (Jason) and Dawn, grandchildren Randy, Douglas, Jacynth, Jade, Ayden, Evan, Damian (Danica), Ashton, Christian and Corasandra, great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Darlene and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father and mother Gerald “Gerry” and Margaret “Daisy” Morrow, brothers Don, Robert “Bud” and Leslie “Les”, sister Geraldine “Dean”, Uncle Des (Thelma) Morrow and Aunt Lil (Elmer) Foster.
Mom was born on July 25, 1948 in Winnipeg and lived in a few small towns, settling in Gimli in 1985. She went back to school at age 42 and graduated from Gimli High School in 1991, we are so very proud of mom’s accomplishment. Mom had a number of jobs and spoke fondly of working at Gimli Central Bakery. She also volunteered and supported local events including the MS Bike Tour.
Mom enjoyed reading, knitting, Tri-Chem painting, board games and card games. She was really good at Canasta. She collected candles and had quite a unique collection. She bowled and won many trophies. She listened to many types of music including Kenny Rogers, Glass Tiger, Celtic Thunder, Pseudo Echo, Boney M, Enya and was an Elvis fan. She liked watching Star Trek, movies on the Women’s network and curling. Most important, mom loved being with family, especially her grandchildren, and friends. She spent much time with family and friends “going for coffee” at Nick’s Inn, Lake ‘N’ Steak and Chicken Chef and we have precious memories of mom and the grandchildren at Ye Olde Ice Cream Parlor, the spray pad, the dock, parades and the Icelandic Festival. Mom loved her pets too, her “babies” Freeway, Jezebel and Tiger.
Our childhood memories include spending time at Lake St. George with mom, our grandparents and other family and friends. The memories were well worth the long drive. After moving to Gimli, mom and grandma had trailers across the road from each other at Gimli Trailer Park. Mom and grandma had many friends there and enjoyed attending trailer park events. Many memories were made.
We also have fond memories of Christmas. Mom would go all out decorating the house and Christmas tree, and when she hosted Christmas dinner, with the snacks and baking there was always way too much food. Mom baked a variety, from cookies to cakes to bars to slices and her famous green pumpkin pie. It was all so delicious.
We would like to thank mom’s health care team. Gimli Hospital caregivers for their care during the many times mom was there. Home Care caregivers, with your care mom was able to continue residing at New Haven until her deteriorating health dictated otherwise. And Gimli Betel Personal Care Home caregivers, it’s because of your care that mom made it through trying times, that she was safe from COVID-19 and the lines of communication were kept open via window and pod visits, facetime and Zoom, that we were able to have more time with her. A heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for taking care of mom and for your positive impact on her quality of life, we are truly grateful.
A special thank you to Ron and Jennifer for the love and support given to mom over the years. We’re so thankful you were in mom’s life and that you’re in our lives.
We would also like to thank family and friends for their continued support through all of this, you all mean a lot to us.
As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment to take place at a later date.
If you would like to donate in mom’s honor please donate to a charity of your choice or consider donating to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Manitoba Possible (formerly Society for Manitobans with Disabilities), The Manitoba Lung Association or support the MS Bike Tour or Manitoba Ride for Sight.
Thank you mom. We love you and forever you will be in our hearts. Rest in peace.
