On Mother’s Day, May 12, 2024 our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother (Nonnie), sister and aunt passed away peacefully at the age of 91. She leaves to mourn her children, Karen (John Belanger), Donald (Tracy), David (Cheryl), granddaughters Jessica (Chris), Amber, Karly; great grandchildren Ella, Rigel, Penelope (she loved these little souls so much), sister Pat Thompson and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Karl and son Randy.
Lillian was not born to an easy life and could very easily have been a bitter, cold woman. But with the love of her wonderful mother, Ida, she learned that love was the best way to treat others. Ephesians 4:32 best summed up our Mother: “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Lillian was an extra ordinary woman who volunteered her time to various causes including the Misericordia Hospital, the Edmonton Senior Centre and home and school committees. She has received 25 year pins for her volunteer work, as well as a 2016 Minister’s Senior Volunteer Award.
An avid knitter and crafter she was always seen making something for her family or friends and knit mittens for the yearly Servus Credit Union mitten tree.
A true friend to all she met Lillian will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She never betrayed a confidence, could not abide with bullies and always said if you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all. She also believed you got more flies with honey than vinegar. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and there was always a card waiting for you.
Our special thanks go to the staff at 7 West in the Misericordia Hospital for their kindness and professionalism with our Mom during her last days on earth.
Mom would always ask “How did I get so lucky to have such a wonderful family?” And we always responded “We are the lucky ones Mom!” She will be deeply missed, never forgotten and will always bring a smile to our faces when we remember her. Any tears we shed are for ourselves because we miss her so. Until we meet again Mom, WE LOVE YOU.
