On September 2, 2024, I was called home to join my love, David. I hadn’t planned on checking out so soon by, hey; when your called home you gotta go. No questions asked.
My downfall was the big C, yes, cancer. I fought hard but it was just too great for me to beat and eventually it won. It wasn’t as bad a I thought it would be, because I got to spend the last years of my life with the people I love most in this world; my son, Matthew and his wife, Brianna; my daughter, Natasha and her husband, Shawn; my son, Justin and his wife, Dale; and of course my three beautiful grandchildren, Toby, Chloe and Maverick – the total joys of my life. Oh and fur babies, Sophie and Bella; my best friend, Sheri Ford, who was there with me through thick and thin. I won’t be upset if you find another best friend (but you’ll never find another me, just saying).
Then, Evelyn Dunn, my mother-in-law, who gave me the love of my life; sisters-in-law, Corinnea (Jason) Wells, Lisa (Alan) Biron and brother-in-law, Jamie Dunn. All my nieces and nephews, take good care of each other. Oh and I can’t forget my long lost family – especially, Marnie Copping, whom I’ve gotten to know and love as a sister.
My family I reconnected with, Vanessa, Elaine, J.P., Russell and just too many to mention, but you know who you all are.
And of course, my mom and dad, who passed away many years ago. I’ll be seeing you soon.
And last but not least, the one true love of my life, David Gushue, who I lost on February 11, 2018. My soul mate and the person who I got to spend 31 years of my life with. I can’t wait to see you again. Be waiting with open arms and a big, dimpled smile, so I’ll know it’s you.
I’ve had a wonderful life and wouldn’t change anything. And I’m ready for my final journey. When you think of me smile and remember the good times and we can talk about it and reminisce when ya’ll are up here with me.
Oh and no flowers, please; you can make a donation to the cancer foundation or any charity of your choice.
There will be no visitation or service at this time for the late Cathy Leyman. A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2025.
To my children: A mother’s love never fades; it just gets stronger with time. I love you, then, now and for eternity. You made my life joyful, exciting and worth living every second of it. Keep smiling those beautiful smiles and take care of each other. “From Mom with love.”
