Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on April 4, 2023, Leonard Pelley age 91 years of Hants Harbour, Trinity Bay.
Predeceased by his wife Gertrude Pelley, stepson Derick Green, parents Cecil Senior and Elsie Pelley, brother Melvin Pelley, brother Cecil Pelley and brother-in- law Frederick Green.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories, daughter-in-law Hollie Green, grandson Todd (Cindy) Green, great grandsons Morgan and Riley Green, sister Velma (Ron) Piercey, brother-in-law John (Myrtle) Soper, sister-in-law Shirley Pelley, nephews Glenn Piercey (Sue Ziegler), Brent (Rhonda) Pelley, Albert (Nellie) Pelley, Gary Pelley, nieces Rhonda (Ian) Mckinnon, Linda Pelley (Natalie Osadchy), Elaine (Reuven) Erenberg and all his great nieces, great nephews as well as an extended circle of family and friends.
Len was a self sufficient, independent individual. He was a builder and enjoyed working with his hands be it either building a boat or a home. He was a hard worker who always was willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbours. He was recognized for working alongside his wife Gertie and “the other bag ladies” picking up recycling to raise funds to support “The Willow Tree” museum in Hants Harbour. His two passions were the outdoors and the sea. He was a sailor at heart. He served in the Korean War while in the Canadian Navy and later went on to be a Merchant Mariner working on ships all around the world. After traveling the world he returned to Hants Harbour to start a fishing enterprise. In his later years he enjoyed spending time at his cabin, hunting, picking berries, and enjoying nature. One of his favourite pastimes was going out in Trinity Bay fishing. He loved taking his great grandsons and great nephews out on the water whenever he got the chance. He shared his love of fishing with many and would often offer others the opportunity to get their quota.
Thank you to the 4th floor staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home and the staff of 4 North A of the HSC for your care and compassion. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation will take place at Green’s Funeral Home, Winterton, Monday April 10, 2:00 to 4:00and 7:00 to 9:00.
Funeral service will be held at Green’s Funeral home, Winterton, on Tuesday April 11 at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to take place at the United Church cemetery, Hant’s Harbour.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Leonard’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
