Obituary
Leo died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 74 years on May 7, 2023. Leo was born in Ottawa, Ontario on August 6, 1948. Leo was the eldest child of a large family that moved “out west” in the early 1960s, first to southern Alberta then settling outside of Golden at “the farm” across the Columbia River near Donald BC. That was the beginning of Leo’s life as one of Golden’s “old timers” hardly ever leaving town – he truly had a love and pride of Golden helping many people the best that he could over the years. Most days you would see Leo in “the shop” with his buddy Derek ready to solve any plumbing challenges. If he wasn’t there he was on his backhoe. He had a love of animals that went deep – his old horse Apache and many of his faithful dog companions. Leo was married to his faithful and caring wife Pat for 50 years this past April. She was the love of his life – there never was a Leo without Pat. And Leo had a special relationship with his daughter Kim – he was very proud of her and what a kind, caring person she has grown to be. And of course Kim brought into the world two granddaughters (Meghan and Madyson). They were Leo’s pride and joy – they always made him smile. Leo looked after his family in his own way. When you were about to leave on an adventure he always asked “do you need any money?” His quiet wink across the room felt like the very best hug. And of course if you knew Leo you knew how close he was to his Mom – morning coffee with toast and molasses while catching up on the latest news of the day. Making sure her steps were clear….
Leo is predeceased by his mother, Audrey Weatherall and father, Russell Weatherall, brother Russell Jr, and Walter Weatherall (Carol). He is survived by his wife Pat; daughter Kimberley Weatherall (Rod Oslund); grand-daughters Meghan Oslund and Madyson Oslund; And his siblings: Mickey (Gary) Balas; Keitha (Kelly) Grittner; Susan (Grainger) Wilson; Jinny (Leif) Nilsen; Geoff (Doug Hudson) Weatherall; MaryAnn Wilson; Bea (Tom) Christmas; Nora (James) Christmas and many nieces and nephews. Respecting Leo’s request, there will not be a funeral service.
