It’s with profound grief & sadness that the family of Leah Sleigh-Saddleback, announces her passing at the tender age of 42. Leah was a kind & gentle spirit gifted to the Sleigh family in October of 1981, she was born when the leaves are already in full colors of red & yellow, befitting as Leah was a true Flames fan. Although Leah endured many challenges & hardships in her life, she was always proud of the family she had built, and worked to be the best mother she could be, this is evident by how much her children loved and adored her, they are left now with the hugest of voids. Leah was part of the Eaglerib clan and was honored to be a part of that legacy, as some Sleighs have now legally changed their name to Eaglerib to honor this legacy. Born in Calgary to Lavina Sleigh, she was the oldest of the 5 children, so big sister mode came naturally to her, which is why she had such a nurturing spirit, always asking about her family members & how they were, greeting her loved ones with a gentle smile. Leah was a very quiet & private woman, but she was a huge presence for her children & siblings, nieces & nephews, they will miss her dearly. Leah was also a newlywed just having been married in July 2023; something that brought family together in celebration, her husband Clifton will miss her love & devotion as his wife. In life’s busyness, although people/ family grow older, the love never changes or goes away; the sudden & unexpected loss of Leah for the Sleigh/ Eaglerib family has been devastating. Our dear Leah was also proud of her family’s accomplishments, no matter how big or small. Leah was always there for family when they were experiencing loss, always staying up with her loved one that passed all night, sometimes by herself, this is such a gesture of love & kindness, that one final act of unconditional love & support that a person can do for their loved one, this has been lost in todays world, so the family appreciates that Leah always was there for us no matter the circumstance.
Leah leaves to mourn her husband of 1 year, Clifton Saddleback, her 6 children Ahneasha, Aleah, Antione, Ashlynn, Addison, Ayauntaye, and her baby girl who was always by her side Deyanndra; she also leaves her siblings, Shannon Burke, Franklin Littlechief, Ammon Bodie (Lonnie Sleigh) whom she was so excited to meet, Helena & Carlin Sleigh. Also grieving is her step-father Clayton Cutter who walked her down the aisle & on her maternal side is her 2 remaining aunts Catherine & Christine Sleigh, along with Barb & Shirley Dyler on paternal side. Left to also mourn is her nieces & nephews Leland, Ashtin, Shalawna, and Aniya; there are also all her cousins & friends, too numerous to name. The family wishes to acknowledge Leah’s extended family; Eaglerib, Good Eagle, Manyshots, Weaselhead, Black Kettle, White Elk, Sitting Eagle, Wolf Leg, Bear Hat, Low Horn, Crowchild, Manywounds, Three Suns, Leather, Yellow Sun, Yellow Fly, Many Fires, Sun Walk, Breaker, Solway, if the family has missed anyone we apologize.
Leah was predeceased by her mother Lavina Sleigh whom she was so lonely for, as well as her 2 children Aliyauna, and Aiden; her brother Jr Sleigh, her grandparents Alphonse & Helen Sleigh, her aunts: Florine Sleigh, Cecile Yellowfly, and Leona Sleigh. She is also predeceased by her uncles: John Sleigh, Matthew Sleigh, Francis Sleigh, Percy Yellowfly, and George Cardinal. She was also predeceased by her paternal Grandmother Emma Dyler. Our family can take some comfort in knowing that our beautiful Leah is reunited with all of the love ones that she missed so much.
The Sleigh family would like to thank those who have reached out to support and/ or offer condolences to the family, we would also like to acknowledge & thank the medical team at the Intensive Care Unit at the PLC for their kindness & respect shown during such a difficult time.
