November 17, 1954 – September 9, 2024
It’s with broken hearts, that we had to say goodbye to our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Larry Black on September 9th. After a courageous battle of cancer, Larry passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the farm as per his wishes.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of almost 50 years, Roswitha “Rose” (nee Buhle); children, Sabrina (Daryl) Fuz, Savannah (Dan), Lee (Lacey); grandchildren, Cody, Summer, Tucker, Chloe, Racquelle, Rilee; brother’s, Eugene, Daniel (Mel), Ray (Ingrid), and brother-in-law, Ralph Buhle. Larry was predeceased by his mother, Audrey Black (nee Delong), father, Bill Black, father-in-law, Willi Buhle, mother-in-law, Anni (nee Schapitz), brother, Gilbert and sister-in-law, Diane.
Larry met his first love, Rose when he was 18 and married her after only 2 weeks; Larry just had that kind of charm. Larry and Rose bought their farm sight-unseen in Komarno, Mb in 1988 where they started a hobby farm with their children. This was followed by years of work on the house and projects around the yard. Dad loved working on the farm, over the years there were many animals, but his passion was working with the horses. In his later years, dad had an abundant garden that became one to envy.
Larry left home (Woodstock, NB) at the age of 16 when he went to B.C. to work, shortly after he got his Class 1 license. This turned out to be his second love and was the start of his lifelong career. For the next 53 years he was behind the wheel of a big rig.
Larry worked for many companies throughout the years; Day and Ross, Burns Meats, Trimac, Bochurka Brothers, Central Freight, Ter Mat, and lastly Armstrong Construction. Recently it was calculated that Larry put on over 5 million miles throughout his journey’s on the highways. In 2001, Larry was proud to have purchased his custom built flat top Peterbilt with straight pipes with a train horn. We could hear that thing a coming from miles away and knew that dad would soon be home.
As per Larry’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a private family celebration will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and comforting thoughts. A special thank you to Dr. Graham, the nurses of the palliative care team and the home care staff that supported him so he could stay at home.
Dad touched so many people’s hearts throughout his lifetime which has significantly shown in the past several months. We have been truly lucky and honoured to call him our husband, father, grandfather and true friend. Dad will forever be in our hearts.
