It is with sadness that we announce Knud Mikkelsen passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, after his struggle with cancer. Knud left with his loving wife, Gloria, by his side. They did life together and it was important they shared this journey together. Knud leaves to mourn his wife of 55 years, Gloria; son, Trevor (Robin); daughters, Leanne (Paul) and Michelle (Jason); grandchildren Lexi (Riley), Jessica (Rowan), Nolan, Kai, Emelia; and great-grandchildren Zealan, Finlan, Kendall, and Abigail; sisters Ellen, Hanne (Anders) as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Neils and Tinne; infant son, Christian; brother and sister-in-law Aage and Ida; brother-in-law Valder; in-laws Walter and Dorothy.
Knud was born in Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1963. Those who knew Knud knew of his love of adventure which was found in everyday life and in his and Gloria’s travels. Hiking, biking, canoeing, and travelling locally and internationally kept him busy in his retirement. He made friends wherever he went. He loved to spend time with family around a good meal and good spirits. Knud’s family and friends will remember his mischievous humour and love of debate. Even though he may agree with you, he would argue the opposite just to see your reaction. Knud took great pride in his home and yard and has planted close to 1000 trees. He supervised many meal preparations adding his expertise and sharing his wisdom as he needed. His love for his family will give warm memories as we continue this next phase of life’s journey.
At Knud’s request there will not be a service. The family encourages all that knew him to raise a glass of your favourite drink, have meaningful eye contact with family or friends and then toast to Knud with “skol”. In remembrance of Knud, please plant a tree (or several).
The family would like to thank the staff from Regina Palliative Care Services and Grace Hospice for all their loving care.
