«Ken» William Kenneth Shapton
On October 29, 2024 the world lost one of the kindest, most gentle and loving men. In his 97th year, William Kenneth (Ken) Shapton passed away at Stirling Manor Nursing Home. Ken began life just outside of Liverpool, England in a town called Bootle on December 27, 1927. He was the fourth of five siblings born to William and Evelyn Shapton.
In 1940 the family moved to Hertfordshire, just north of London. It was there that Ken recalled helping the children who had been evacuated to the countryside during the war. Towards the end of World War II, Ken was “called up” to enlist when it was discovered he had contracted TB. Instead of going to war, he was sent to a sanatorium for convalescence. Upon recovery and release he went to work for Barclay’s Corsets in Welwyn Garden City where he learned his trade.
He met the love of his life, Joyce in 1950 and they were married on his twenty fifth birthday. They became parents to David in 1955 and Linda arrived in 1957. They were blessed with five grandchildren Jennifer, Joanna, Krista, Olivia and Mitchell and have three great-grandchildren Gavin, Milo and Fiona.
In 1967 their little family moved to Canada and settled in Trenton where Joyce and Ken resided in the same house for forty two years. In his later years he developed dementia but he never lost his sense of humour and kind spirit, often amusing the staff at Stirling Manor with grins, hugs and impromptu dances. When visiting with family he would always exclaim “Aren’t I lucky”, but in truth, we were the lucky ones for being so loved by such an honourable husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Friends are invited to Rushnell Funeral Home, Trenton Chapel, 60 Division Street, Trenton (613-392-2111) on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 11 am until time of Memorial Service at 12 noon.
