It is with sadness that the family of Kenneth John Johnston announce his passing at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after a brief battle with cancer.
Ken was born the oldest of twin boys in Rosetown SK to Reginald and Evelyn Johnston. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ardyss; daughters: Lori (Remmus) Reichert and Erin (Kevin) Heppner; grandchildren: Jacob, Evelyn and Rachel Heppner and Katrina and Amanda Reichert; siblings: Donna Allan (Clarence Smith); Bob (Charlotte) Johnston, Keith Johnston (Jan Kuzuchar) and Ronald (Marilyn) Johnston; brother-in-law’s: Duane Martinson (Irene Fox) and Arden (Barb) Martinson; sister-in-law’s: Enid Dice and Mavis Beck; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents; in-laws Merle and Florence Martinson; sister-in-law’s: Patricia Johnston and Alice Martinson; and brother-in-law’s: Clayton Allan, David Dice and Grant Beck.
Ken started life and school at the family farm near Glamis SK/Windy Plains School until the family moved into Rosetown where he was until his late teens when he went to Calgary and then Saskatoon. In Saskatoon he met his future wife Ardyss on a blind date in 1965. He tried his hand at many jobs from nursing, undertaking, auto body, and baking but he found his true calling in upholstery. He built up a great reputation for his upholstery skills with his projects ranging from airplanes, boats, furniture to his favorite antique cars. He just officially retired from being a “man of the cloth” a month before his passing. He also enjoyed his time as a caretaker in the public school system with his daily interactions with the “little rascals”.
Ken always had a kind word, smile, and a helping hand for others and worked hard to provide for his family. He and mom enjoyed when their house was filled with family and friends. They loved having their grandkids nearby and were kept busy babysitting, chauffeuring, and attending their events and activities. They have many interesting stories of their travels on car tours with the Saskatoon Antique Car Club. Dad was a member of the SAAC for over 50 years, was a member of CARG (Coronary Artery Rehabilitation Group), and a member of Mayfair United Church and on several boards during his years at Mayfair.
The Funeral Service will be held at Mayfair United Church, 902 33rd St. W. Saskatoon, SK. at 2 pm on Monday, December 4, 2023.
Donations in Ken’s memory can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan or CARG.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Kenneth Johnston.
