Keith Earl Moores, born on February 6, 1941, and peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, leaves behind a legacy that will forever live in our hearts.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Greene) Moores.
Keith was a talented electrician with the family business, Moores Electric, in the earlier part of his career. In 1981, he embarked on a new journey by establishing his own venture, United Alarms, which became known throughout Cape Breton and beyond as the company ‘Who’s Watching Your Home?’
Keith possessed an extraordinary talent for fixing anything that came his way, a gift that helped so many over the years. His ability to think outside the box and find innovative solutions not only benefited those he was helping but also left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working with him. He had an inquisitive mind and his curiosity inspired lifelong learning.
He was a retired volunteer firefighter in North Sydney and he belonged to the Kinsmen Club for many years where he met some of his lifelong friends. Keith was also a member of the North Sydney and Baddeck Yacht Clubs.
Kindness was second nature to him and he always made everyone feel welcome and invited. Hopefully you knew Keith well enough to experience his humor and dry wit. He had a lifetime of stories and witty comments that could leave you breathless from laughing.
It would be no surprise to anyone to say that Keith’s favourite thing to do was to spend time on his boat, Bras d’Or Traveler. He enjoyed it rain or shine with family and friends and sometimes on his own. His hospitality was incredible, and the memories will be forever with us all. Many can say their best memories were on this boat with him and Sibby, his first mate. There are countless stories of being aboard involving great food, friends, fabulous journeys.
Keith is survived by his loving wife Sibby (Sylvia) of 56 years, daughters Mary, Diane (Matt) and son Paul (Bettina), grandchildren Diane, Wilson, Josh, Max and Henrik. His special buddy, Remi, his oldest great-grandson, will dearly miss his Poppy. His other great-grandchildren are Landon, Raeleigh and Ramsay. He is also survived by his sisters Verna (Gerry) Karst and Elaine (John) Ellis, nephews Greg, Jimmy and Jeffrey and nieces Julie and Laura. Keith had countless friends whom he considered family that will truly miss him forever. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother David, sister-in-law Carol and nephew David.
The family would like to thank Jason Gerrow for all he has done to help Keith and Sibby over the years. United Alarms flourished with Jason, and the family truly appreciates everything he has done. Also, thanks to the nurses at the Kidney Dialysis at the Northside General Hospital for all they have done, as well as the many invaluable doctors that gave Keith such exemplary care over the years.
Cremation has taken place and visitation for Keith will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday, October 6 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon David Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney and a reception at the North Sydney Legion, 16 Archibald Ave., North Sydney. Memorial donations can be made to your local food bank or your favourite charity.
