It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our mother, Kathleen Donna Watetch, ozhaawashko-bineshiinh “Bluebird” on Monday, February 12, 2024, with her grandchild Cornelia “Popcorn” Kaysaywaysemat by her side. She was 72 years old when she passed into the spirit world.
Donna was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Thomas Watetch; her parents Louise and Louis Sr.; her sister Dorthy; her brothers Thomas and Dennis; her two grandchildren; Clayton Ricky Myran, who also called Donna his other mom; and nephews Gordie, Eric, and Chris “Rambo”.
Donna attended school in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, with additional post-secondary in Regina. Besides having a 100 percent open door policy for her kids, grandkids, and their friends, Donna never said no to helping any of our family’s friends or relatives. She loved cooking for kids and grandkids and was always teaching them how to cook. Donna worked various jobs in her lifetime, from a teaching assistant, to Sears, to the Dollar Store, but ultimately, caring for grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her kids was her favourite job. Donna also loved bingo and would often be seen at bingo or the casino, playing her favourite machine. She enjoyed her bingo time with her good friend Grace and her various bingo friends.
Donna will be sadly missed by her children Ashley, Treena, Jeffery, Crystal, Melissa, Mathew, and Agatha; stepdaughter Jackie; special adopted daughter Emma; brothers Louis Jr “Tubby” and Maurice; sister Karen; her adopted sisters Barb Cameron and Vivian Mantee; adopted brother Daryle “B”; sister-in-law Loretta; brother-in-law Wally; all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her laughter very much.
On behalf of the Watetch family, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Echo Lodge Care Home who cared for Donna, all of the friends and relatives who made the journey to see her, and Piapot chief and council, with a special thank you to Chief Mark Fox.
Wake will take place at Piapot Band Hall on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Piapot Band Hall on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
