Obituary of Katherine Helen Hildebrand
Hildebrand, Katherine – After a long and full life, Katherine passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on May 25, 2024 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. She was 92.
Katherine was born on October 9th, 1931 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. When she was 11, her family moved to Toronto. After high school Katherine worked for several years as an administrative assistant and a legal secretary. Katherine and her husband Jacob met in Toronto in 1953. They were married on September 3, 1955 and began their life together in St. Catharines where they raised their three children.
Katherine was a skilled and active volunteer at Grace Mennonite Church (St. Catharines) and within the broader Mennonite community. Katherine was an excellent seamstress, avid gardener, amazing organizer, wonderful cook, and with Jacob, an enthusiastic world traveller. Most of all she was a joyful, loving and compassionate support to family and friends near and far.
Katherine was the beloved wife of Jacob Hildebrand for 68 years and loving mother of Tom Hildebrand (Nancy), Carol Dyck (Jack) and Ken Hildebrand. She was the adoring Oma of Jessica Peters (Cyprian), Jake Hildebrand (Stevey), Natalia Doerksen (Ryan), Jamie Hildebrand (Aley), Joshua Dyck, Kate Robinson and Graham Hildebrand. She was thrilled to be a great Oma to Evan, Sydney, Noa and Theodore.
Katherine was predeceased by her parents, Isaac and Anna (Bartel) Lehn and her four siblings Mary Lehn, Frieda Neufeld Warkentin, Walter Lehn and Anne Rogalsky, her parents-in-law, Gerhard and Ida (Epp) Hildebrand, brothers-in-law, George Hildebrand, George Neufeld, Edward Hildebrand, Hank Warkentin, Harry Gerber and John Rogalsky and sisters-in-law Violet Lehn, Joan Hildebrand, Mary Hildebrand and Elsie Hildebrand. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Anne Gerber and Ghada Lehn.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pioneer Elder Care (Lakeshore Rd.) and the St. Catharines General Hospital for their compassionate care of Katherine during her final months and days.
Visitation will take place at Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St., Vineland on Thursday, May 30th from 6 to 8 pm. Private family burial prior to the service.
A celebration of Katherine‘s life will be held on Friday, May 31st at 11 am at Grace Mennonite Church, 677 Niagara Street St. Catharines, followed by a lunch in the church auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MCC or Family and Children’s Services Niagara.
