Karen Edith MacDonald
– 59, of Salmon River passed away on Thursday, September 14,
2023 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in
Truro, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Webb)
MacDonald.
Mom was very
passionate about hockey and was the biggest Montreal Canadiens fan.
Growing up she would watch hockey with her brother, Terry always
cheering for opposing teams. She also loved talking hockey with her
nieces and nephew, and she was known to get a little heated if the
Canadiens were losing.
She was a best friend
to both of her daughters. She would visit Katlyn as much as she could,
and loved going on Wal-Mart trips with Shauna. Mom met her
soulmate, Jamie, later in life, but in the short time she had with
him, he gave her a lifetime worth of love. Not a day would go by where
she didn’t think of him. Mom had a special bond
with her dad who she helped take care of the last few years until his
passing, with Shauna.
Her nieces and nephews
fondly remember the sleepovers they would have with Aunt Karen when
they were younger, they always thought of her as a fun
aunt. Although she only had one nephew, she always called him
her favourite nephew, and was proud to share birthdays with
him.
Mom will be remembered
as a great cook. She was known for her fudge that she brought to every
event or holiday, as well as turkey dinners that she would help
Grampie make every Christmas.
Mom loved big, she was
funny, kind, passionate and sassy. She had a big personality and could
talk to anybody. She will be missed at Sobeys where she met some of
her best friends. She always looked forward to the get-togethers with
her deli girls.
Mom leaves behind,
daughters, Katlyn MacDonald (Dustin Pace), Dartmouth and Shauna
MacDonald, Salmon River; brother, Terry MacDonald (Bonita),
Greenfield; nieces, Lisa Leopold (David Leopold),
Truro, Christina Alfred (Michael Alfred), Salmon River;
nephew, Ryan MacDonald (Destini MacDonald),
Greenfield; step-grandson, Greyson Pace; great nieces and
nephews, Hayden Leopold, Jade Leopold, Blake Leopold, Weston Leopold,
and Jackson Alfred. Besides her parents she was predeceased by
fiancé, Jamie Crowe.
We want to thank
everyone who came to say goodbye to Mom at the ICU. A big thank you
especially to the QEII, ICU team who provided excellent care to Mom in
her final days.
