Judy was a people person who enjoyed a good laugh and many hobbies. She loved spending time with her family (including grandpets) and friends. Most recently, she performed as a singer and bassist with the Newfoundland Fiddlers Association. Earlier in life, she performed for many years in the Lear Family Band (Ed, Judy, Denise and Michele). The family performed at many local folk festivals, the Canadian Heritage Festival in Alberta (1987), a Ken Pittman movie No Apologies (1990) and other performances at various venues. The Lear Family also released a recording entitled Something to Sing About (1990) which includes original music. Judy had also been a member of church choirs for many years. She was always a very active member of her church and expressed her strong faith right up to the end. Her other hobbies included travelling, RVing and playing darts. She even learned how to do an oil canvas painting while at Pleasant View Towers during the last few months of her life. Judy really loved the occasional cod tongue platter or lobster supper. As our family’s Matriarch (with a capitalized “M”), she always reminded Ed to take his pills and would even call him from Pleasant View Towers to ensure he did so. Her favourite tv show was Coronation Street (Corrie)!
Judy’s family would like to extend much heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of Pleasant View Towers for their kind, committed care and to St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their comforting palliative care. Judy loved to tell the story of how she was named after Nursing Sister Judith and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. Sister Judith was especially good to Judy’s mother when Judy was born at St. Clare’s, hence her name Judith Clare.
Judy will always be loved and forever remembered in our hearts.
