McCran, Josephine Rosaria (nee Verna) in her 76th year, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 7, 2023. Recently diagnosed with cancer, she demonstrated remarkable bravery and grace while carried by so many prayers.
Beloved wife of Brian McCran for nearly 50 years. Loving mother of Katherine (Gerrard), Joanne (Rudy), Laura (Kevin), and Mary (Eddy). Cherished Nonna to nine grandchildren (Lily, Owen, Aaron, William, Peter, Sarah, Audrey, Emma and Tommy). Adoring sister of Mary (Adelmo) and proud Tia to Michelle (Josè), Ana (Matt) and Elena (Stan). She was also a loyal friend to many both near and far.
Josie was born in Roseto Valfortore, Italy and immigrated to Canada at the age of 3. She grew up in downtown Toronto and attended St. Joseph’s College School. At the High Park Ski Club, she met the love of her life, Brian, where their lifelong enjoyment of traveling began. She found great fulfillment in helping children with special needs as an Educational Assistant at Our Lady of Fatima School.
Josie will be fondly remembered as a woman of deep faith, a devoted community builder and volunteer. She saw great value volunteering to causes close to her heart within her church and community. She gave generously of both time and energy to the Catholic Women’s League, the Woodbridge Pollinator Group, and the Woodbridge Village Farmers Market.
Together with Brian she explored many places throughout the world including parts of Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and North America. She always found time to do the things she enjoyed including Tai Chi, gardening, reading novels, tending to friendships and loving her grandchildren.
Resting at DeMarco Funeral Home (Woodbridge Chapel at 8003 Weston Rd.), visitation will take place on Sunday November 12 from 6-9 p.m., and Monday, November 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church (8500 Islington Avenue, Woodbridge, ON) on Tuesday, November 14 at 10 a.m. The burial will take place at Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. Josie wished for memorial donations to be made to MaterCare International, Doctors Without Borders or Vitanova Foundation.
Josie will be sorely missed and her indelible mark will live on in each of us.
