Joseph Price (Joe) passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, in his 80th year after a long battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Bernadette Price, dear father of Uli (Meltem) & Melissa Price, stepfather to Julie (Brett), Gisèle (Louis) & Dennis (Amanda), loving grandfather of Chelsea (Corey), Dylan (Kristina), Elizabeth (Trisha), Jacob (Teodora), Cameron (Celeste), Andrew (Emily), Jackson & Violet, great grandfather to Jason and step grandfather to Selim, Brandon and Zachary. He is also survived by his three sisters; Theresa, Martha & Margaret. Joe will also be greatly missed by many in his extended family and numerous friends.
Joe started teaching in Cole Lake Alberta when he was 17 before returning to Ontario to further his education. During his career he taught at St. Teresa’s in Toronto, St. Peter’s in Orangeville, Father C.W. Sullivan in Brampton, and Holy Family in Bolton before retiring in 1998.
In addition to his passion for teaching, Joe was a huge Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan and rarely missed watching a game. Joe also loved playing card games, with Bernadette becoming his bridge and life partner 38 years ago. Joe loved playing cards so much that he would ask his chemo nurses to hurry up so he wouldn’t miss a game.
Joe also felt strongly about giving back to his community and helping the poor. He volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul, the Salvation Army, and he and Bernadette were deeply involved with the Orangeville Seniors Centre. He was also a Charter member of our Knights of Columbus council and had been active with many projects since 1984 , receiving a certificate of merit for his faithful and exceptional services in 2019.
Visitation will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Friday, December 1st, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church 42 Dawson Road Orangeville, on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent De Paul, The Salvation Army or the Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of Joseph in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The 22nd Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
