Passed away peacefully at home in Largo, Florida, on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of 93.
Joe is survived by his wife Nancy Tucker of Largo, FL; his daughter Diane (Tom) of Abbottsford, BC and his son Gary (Ann) of North Augusta, ON; his grandson Justin Labrecque (Rebecca) of Cornwall, ON; his sister Berthe Brule of Orleans, ON and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his first wife Ramona Degan of Lancaster, ON; his parents, Delphis Mayer and Agnes Cartier of Plantagenet, ON and by ten brothers and sisters.
Joe spent his life working as a machinist, mechanic and a farmer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. While working Joe was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and when he retired he had climbed to be the president of his union hall, Local 412 of the Aerospace Machinists Union. He retired at 62 and started wintering in Largo, Florida at that time. While in Florida, he spent his time as an avid shuffleboard player from amateur to professional. Joe has many trophies and medals from tournaments and league play. He loved deep sea fishing, travelling on cruises and traveling all around the eastern seaboard. His summer and fall in Ontario involved cooking, dancing and travel with some hunting and fishing thrown in.
Joseph will be interred at St. Luc Cemetery in Curran, ON, on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Curran Community Hall.
