Jolene Hartt Obituary
Hartt (Bigger), Jolene
It is with great sadness that the family of Jolene (Bigger) Hartt announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 24, 2024. She passed peacefully with her children by her side. Jolene was born on July 14, 1954 in Harvey Station, NB to the late Leona (Connolly) and James Bigger.
Jolene will be missed by her two daughters; Bobbi-Jeanne (Grant Artes) Hartt and Linzi-Marie ( Darren) Lanteigne, three brothers; Ronald (Bev), Bob (Andrew) and John (Lori) Bigger, sister in law Marilyn Bigger; five grandchildren; Victoria Hall, Ashley MacDonald, Cameron, Caitlyn and Carly Youngblood, three adorable great grandchildren; Olivia, Mariah and Adriana, and several nieces and nephews. Aunts and tonnes of cousins.
She spent summers at the Cabins in the Pines in Upper Gagetown 63-69, then in 1970, moved to the CPR Farm on the back Tracy rd in the Junction with her parents and siblings and graduated from Oromocto High School in 1972. Got married in 1974 and had 2 daughters.
She worked at NBTEL for many years, at Crescent Jewellers for a time, worked as nurses aid at the White Rapids Manor, and then secretary at the Fredericton Junction Health Center, She even dabbled in some politics, canvassing for political parties. The Fredericton Junction Legion was also a special place and she volunteered there as well and an active member. She helped her father in every poppy campaign he was involved in plus she was instrumental in identifying, naming and framing all pictures on the walls in Branch #55. She was also a member of the Gladstone Curling Club and St Columba Catholic Church . Helped at the SCDC, with Come Home Week festivities and Fredericton Junction Cheerleading squad. Loved spending time at ‘Birches cabins’ and the ‘Chalet’ on Prince Edward Island and visiting with family there.
Later in life, when her daughters were older, she went to STU and her BSW degree and then went on to Carleton University in Ottawa to get her MSW. She was very proud of her accomplishments and so was the rest of her family. After she graduated, she worked from home taking on lots of clients near and far. She even taught on some occasions at STU. She was very good at her job, she loved helping people and devoted her time to her profession. Mom was very skilled at supporting and encouraging her clients and was well liked and well respected by students and staff. She was meticulous with reports and proposals. She also worked for extra mural until her health started to decline.
She enjoyed spending time at Peltoma lake, crafts, stained glass, games on the computer, knitting, sewing, crocheting, calligraphy, cross stitch, tole painting, baking, hosting family dinners on holidays and special occasions, she enjoyed homemade decorations, She was an awesome multitasker and could succeed and master anything she touched. She absolutely loved spending time with her 2 loyal and devoted golden retrievers, Pellie and Sophie. She loved Christmas and all that went with it, loved music and dancing. She Loved her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart, as well as her siblings and extended families of cousins/nieces/nephews. After her health issues in 2008, she was unable to work or do some of the other things she had done prior but she still tried her best to continue being a loving and devoted mother/grandmother to us all. She loved being surrounded by family but struggled a lot after each passing of those near and dear to her and her heart ached a little more each time.
She moved to Fredericton in 1997 and in 2010 she moved back to the junction and stayed until 2016 and then moved to Oromocto. She went on several trips and enjoyed getting caught up with old friends she had lost touch with over the years. She was one of the organizers of the BRATS group along with her brother Barry. She volunteered In the area and enjoyed having little gatherings with her friends and family and special girls trips, lunches and outings with cousins and her close friends. She was part of a womans social church group. She also enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting & horse events when she could and liked keeping up with what they were doing at all times. She loved feeling needed so was always quick to volunteer or help anyone who needed it. As her health declined, she still continued to watch games online and attend events when she was able and wished she could have done more. She had many special friends who visited and checked in regularly and helped her in any way they could and her family will be forever grateful to them for that.
Along with her parents, Jolene is predeceased by a sister Linda Davidson and a brother Barry Bigger.
Honourary Pall Bearers were her special friends : Bonnie Logan, Rose Nicholson, Sherry Bourjeois Connolly, Cindy Connolly and Maryanne Taylor.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at DECH in ER, CCU and ICU ( especially Dr Daigle!!) also Dr Harvey, Redstone and Aslam and the ICU nurse (Meghan) who stayed with us and made mom so comfortable until the end, your kindness and compassion meant so much to us) Thank you for so much for working so hard to finally provide our mom with the answers she had been longing for and in need of for so long.
