Obituary of John McLeish Stewart
STEWART, John McLeish – John passed away with his wife by his side at home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Jennifer (Newman) for 34 years. Dear father of Angela Stewart, Ajax and Crystal Mann, Royston, B.C. Proud step-father of Ryan Gerofsky (Maytal), Vancouver, and Liam Gerofsky (Jamela), Ottawa. Loving Grandpa of Téa, Lila and Noah. Brother of Greg Stewart (Pat), Scottsdale, AZ. and Brian Stewart (Deb), Sarnia. Uncle of Carley Welch (Tim), Scott Stewart, Mandy Stewart, Michael Stewart, Heather Stewart and Jacob Allison-Debrone. Brother-in-law of Kim Newman. Predeceased by parents John and Madelyn Stewart. John loved watching NASCAR every Sunday, listening to classic country music, and – in his later years – watching the ships come and go along the St. Clair River. He was a longtime member of the Cabineers Snowmobile Club, and he loved skeet shooting at the Deleware Gun Club – he was a great shot, too. John will also be remembered for being the tough-as-nails first baseman for the Nairn Men’s slo-pitch team. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. At John’s request, cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at Nairn Cemetery in the Spring.
