McCotter, John:
It is with great sadness and love that the family of John (Don) McCotter announces his passing on January 28, 2023, at the age of 83. He passed away peacefully at Freeport Health Center with his family by his side.
John will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Renee. Forever cherished by his children, Conor (Gaby), Claire (Steve), Ryan and John (Breanne) for whom he showed unconditional love and support. Adored Granda to Gavin, Ava, and Nolan who will miss his playful nature and silly jokes.
Born on July 18, 1939, in Belfast, Northern Ireland to parents Elizabeth and William McCotter, John was one of six children. He leaves behind siblings Betty, Maura, Eamonn (Kathleen), Margaret and Bill (Josie) as well as many sister and brother in-laws, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his brother and sister in-laws Bobby, Kelvin, Eddie, Jan and Billy.
John was a true gentleman. He was kind, loving and genuine. He worked hard his entire life. He was never scared to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and a sense of humour. His Irish charm made him a born salesman and shoes became his calling card. Those shoes took him everywhere, particularly the dance floor. To watch John and Renee ballroom dance was always quite a treat. When he became a DJ later in life, he shared his love of music and dance with others.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s General Hospital and of Freeport Health Centre who showed such care and compassion to him in his final days.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Parish, 200 Mount Albion Road, Hamilton. An interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 254 Garner Road West, Hamilton, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to SickKids Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
