It is with sadness but also with deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the death of John Kloster on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the age of 97.
John will be lovingly remembered by Claire, his wife of almost 69 years; and their children, Louis, Diane, Francis (Patricia), John (Donita); grandchildren, Travis MacDonald, Seth MacDonald, Tara MacDonald, Petra Kloster, Andrea Kloster, Adam (Tatiana) Kloster, Evan Kloster, Liam Kloster; two great grandchildren, Sofia Kloster, James John Kloster; and one sister, Anne Kloster.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, George John Kloster; and by his siblings Barbara, George I, Alois, Margaret, George II, Marie (Sr. Agnes), Elizabeth, Joseph, Adam, Steve, and Emmanuel.
John was born on August 12, 1926, the fourth of thirteen children, and raised on a farm near Macklin, Saskatchewan. For many years he attended St. Thomas College seminary in North Battleford, SK, where he was discerning the priesthood. However, he was instead called to the married life.
For many years John was an educator with Edmonton Catholic Schools and was very active in community, church, and volunteer work, usually assuming a leadership role. He had a heart for social justice and ecumenism as well as a strong interest in politics. John enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, reading and writing, raising chickens and acreage living. Most of all, he loved people and was extremely devoted to his family.
John was a kind and gentle man, patient and humble of heart. He was a man of great faith, a dedicated husband and father, and a friend to many. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
