It is with
deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of John (Johnny) on
June 10,2023.
Dad was born
in Merland, Antigonish County, on June 9, 1930, to Frank and Rita
(Doyle) Theriault. He was predeceased by his parents and
siblings; Sally, Mabel, Hazel, and Arthur.
Dad is
survived by his wife Betty; son, Frank, and daughters; Joan Marie,
Barbara (Kevin), and Colette (Nick); grandchildren, Nicole, Kimberley,
Kyle, Evan, Lucas, Megan, John, Benjamin, Jenna «Janice»,
and Emma; great grandchildren, Ryan, Judi, Harrison, Juliette,
Eleanor, Philip John, Peyton, and Oaklyn; sisters, Lillian (Eric),
Ann, Mary (Buddy); and brother, Clarence.
Dad worked as
a machine operator for many years. Dad never retired, he
just «slowed down.» He spent countless hours working in his
yard, splitting, chopping, and loading firewood on one of his many
trucks to deliver to his customers. Dad eventually hung up
the axe and decided he would start another adventure. This
time it was yard sales and flea markets – venturing out to
new destinations selling many different types of tools and a lot of
axe handles. Dad’s dog, Roxy, was never far from
his side. Dad made friends wherever he went and loved when
visitors dropped by. Dad really enjoyed getting presents and
would always remind us in advance that his birthday was fast
approaching and that a Canadian Tire Gift Card «would be
great».
He was a
great dancer and loved country music. Dad was also a
wonderful storyteller and had a great sense of humor. Dad
loved his family and was very proud of his children and
grandchildren. Dad taught us from a very young age the
importance of hard work and the value of a dollar. We love
you, Dad. Rest peacefully. We will meet
again.
Special
thanks to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and the kind, amazing staff
who cared for Dad. Thank you to Dr. Hickey and Dr. Steeves,
our family is profoundly grateful for the support and kindness shown
to our dad.
Cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be at C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
135 College Street, Antigonish on Saturday, June 24, 2023, 2 to-4 pm
and 7 -9pm. Burial in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Maryvale,
on a later date.
