John Poole
John, aged 83 years, of Winchester, Ontario passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday March 2, 2024. John Dwight Poole was born August 4, 1940 in Harmony Corner. He was son of the late John Deward Poole and Jennie Poole (Hutchinson). He was born in the family farmhouse where he lived for the first 80 years of his life. He grew up with his parents, brother Grant and sisters Jean (Annable) and Shirley (Barkey). John was predeceased by his baby brother Gordon who passed away before he was born.
John is survived by his daughters April Don (Matt), Tara Armstrong (Cory) and Colleen Babluck (Nick) and sister Jean Annable, and five loving grandchildren, Mason Don, Carter Don, Cayden Armstrong, Paige Armstrong, and Nicole Babluck. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was a loving father and grandfather. He was very grateful and proud to be the father to three daughters who cared for him very much.
John loved living on the farm. He worked as a dairy farmer for most of his life. He spent his free time playing chess and cards at the Winchester Legion. He enjoyed being outside, going for walks, tending to his garden, cutting wood, making furniture, curling and being social – visiting family and friends. He enjoyed his beer and the odd onion sandwich. He also enjoyed watching movies and hockey. Most of all, he loved spending time with his three daughters and going out for family dinners. In his recent years, he lived at the Hilltop Manor in Merrickville and enjoyed going into town with his family for lunch.
John loved to joke around and making people laugh. He was funny, positive, happy, and never complained. He brought everyone around him much joy.
Some of his favorite sayings were:
“If you can’t be good, be careful”
“My father always said that we should treat people, the way we want to be treated”
When things are hard, he would always say: “I guess we will just need to make the best of it”
John will be missed immensely, and no words can express the loss the family feels. John will be forever cherished by his family and gone but never forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to visit the Winchester Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 472 Main Street, Winchester on Thursday March 7, 2024 from 5 pm to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday at 11 am. A special note of thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Hilltop Manor in Merrickville for taking such tender care of our father.
