Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener. John was born 84 years ago in Holland, a long time resident of Mississauga and resident of the Stonecroft Community, New Hamburg.
Cherished and loving husband of Mildred “Millie” (Edmiston) DeVries, whom he has cherished 62 years of marriage with. Devoted father of John DeVries (Irene), Rosanne DeVries (Paul Moore), Dawna Laitar (Chris), and Cary DeVries (Nicola). Proud grandfather of Colleen, Danielle (Tim), Jordan (Anna), Callum (Katie), Travis, Jacob, Teaghan, Jonathan and Paige and great-grandfather of Jaiden Elijah, and Mila. John will be missed by his brothers and sisters George (Rina), Ann Jansen, Ron (Margaret), Robert, and Annette VanDuyn along with several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his father and mother Jan and Marina (deGraff) DeVries, and brothers-in-law Cornelius Jansen and Rae Roe.
John worked for the Ministry of Transportation for many years before retirement. He avidly enjoyed woodworking projects and shared his talents with many people. John and Millie enjoyed travelling and time spent at their vacation home on Sauble Beach. Above all, John enjoyed his time spent with his loving family.
Cremation has taken place, a memorial visitation will take place at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00p.m. A time of fellowship will follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations would be accepted to St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener and can be done through the funeral home.
