John H. Knol (1936 – 2024)
We are sad to announce the passing of John on August 11th in his 88th year. Loving husband to Joanne, father to Keith and Kimberley (Peter), stepfather to Lynne (Frank), Kevin (Shawna) and Mike (Indra). Proud grandpa of Kalinda, Jaclyn, Allison, Ben, Matthew, Sophie, Kate, Sam and Brynne. John was also a caring brother and uncle to many who loved and laughed with him.
John was born in Leiden in the Netherlands in 1936 and emigrated to Canada on his own in 1956. He learned English, put himself through university and worked his way up to being an operations executive in the printing industry. John married Joanne in 1980 and they shared many adventures over the next 44 years – from traveling to renovating homes to running a coffee shop (Jay’s in Kingston) after John retired. They lived in a dozen homes together across Ottawa, Mississauga, Kingston, Ivy Lea, Gananoque, Bath, and Horseshoe Valley to where they most recently lived in Vineland – the place John called the nicest place on earth.
John loved his family, he loved his dogs and he loved to build. When he was not building cottages and renovating their homes, you would find him in Fairway Village in Largo, Florida helping friends and family with whatever they needed over 23 winter seasons. John’s work ethic and pride in workmanship were unparalleled.
We lost this beautiful soul but he will always be in our hearts. As a pillar of strength and support, thanks John/Dad/Grandpa for all the great years we were able to spend with you. You are gone from us but you will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Life will be held at The Shore – 2793 Beacon Blvd, Lincoln ON, (905) 562-4155 – on Saturday, September 14th from 2-5pm. Friends and family are welcome to come and raise a glass in John’s memory.
