Joan Marie Lafford
Joan Marie Lafford, 86, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of
Hopewell Cape passed away on February 27th, 2024 at Forest
Dale Home. Joan was born in Saint John on August 9th, 1937
the daughter of the late John and Carrie (Rossiter)
Joan worked at many places throughout her life, she was a
cook at Harbour View Restaurant, worked at Fundy Park Chalets and at
the Alpine Motel all in the Alma area. She last
worked as a bookkeeper for her son with
Lafford & Wilson Fisheries. Joan had a zest for life
and lived it to the fullest. She was always up for a fun
time and made many friends over the years. Joan always made
her point known and you didn’t have to guess what she was thinking,
she had a way of letting you know how she
felt. In the past few years after the death of her
husband, Gerald, she has been fortunate to live with her son,Doug, her
daughter-in-law, Faith and their family. She had her own
little apartment but was only a few steps away from her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren which she treasured. They
made her days brighter and she was so happy when they were around and
enjoyed keeping up on all the daily news. Her grandchildren
were always a topic of conversation when she was out and she loved
talking about their achievements.
She thoroughly enjoyed her BINGO and went to the
Kiwanis BINGO whenever she could, she loved to give Albert a hard time
when he was calling the numbers. When she couldn’t get
around that great anymore she played the TV BINGO every Tuesday night
with her son coming over to play. She looked forward to
those nights and it became a weekly event with
« To the world you were a mother and
grandmother, to our family you were the world. »
Joan eventually had to move to Forest Dale Home due to her
health issues. She played cards, bingo and always joined in all the
events going on. She would light up the room and there was
always laughter when Joan was around. The staff really
enjoyed her, they made the transition so easy and
she was so happy to be there. She called the girls her
angels. It gave her family such peace to know she was so
well looked after and enjoyed her last months. She lived a
good life and would want everyone to remember all the good times and
cherish the memories they made.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Doug Lafford (Faith)
of Hopewell Cape; treasured grandchildren, Becky, Carrie (Kyle),
Bridget (Brandan), Marshall and Paige and great-grandsons, Axel,
Xavier and Zander; brother, David Rumson (Max) of Saint
John. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews
and by all her extended family and friends.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her
beloved husband Gerald; brothers, Doug, Hartford and John
Henry Jr.
There will be a casual time of visitation to
celebrate Joan’s life and share memories with the
family on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Albert
County Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Bayview
Cemetery, Harvey, NB at a later date.
Donations to the Bayview Cemetery or to the charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral
Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H-3K2 (506)
