Obituary of Jim Marshall
It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Husband, Dad, and Grandfather. James (Jim) Thomson Marshall passed away on October 7th, at the age of 74. He will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Susan (nee Wright) and his daughters Victoria (Adam) Thomson, Melissa Mann and Roslin Marshall, as well has his 5 beloved grandchildren Charlotte, Allister and Briella Thomson and Vienna and Fraser Mann.
Jim is predeceased by his Dad Walter Marshall and his brother-in-law James Douglas (Dougie) Kirk and is survived by his Mom Cecilia Thomson, his sister Janet Kirk, his brother Wilson (Anne) Marshall, his sister-in-laws Sharon (Len) Rempel, Caroleen Wright, Cynthia (Jack) Wright-Fulton, his brother-in-law Robert (Sylvie) Wright and his many nieces and nephews and their families, in both Scotland and Canada.
Jim was born in the village of Forth, Scotland on November 30, 1948. In his youth, he enjoyed playing in a brass band and playing soccer and rubgy. He attended Lanark Grammar School and later moved to Glasgow to train as an accountant. In 1976 he made the adventurous decision to move to Canada to begin his life here. He met his future wife, Susan, while working together at the accounting firm, Winspear Higgins Stevenson and Co. They were married in 1979.
Jim spent his career working as an accountant at a variety of companies and also owned a concrete company, Mac Mix Concrete, during the 1990’s.
Jim loved to travel and passed this love of travel on to his daughters. He also loved golf, reading, watching rugby and soccer, and listening to pipe and brass bands. He enjoyed many good memories at his family cabin at Emma Lake, and will be fondly remembered for his excellent storytelling, his love of history and his ability to do mental math. He particularly loved spending winters at his home in Arizona after retirement and his Masonic activities and Shrine involvement.
Jim was a proud Scot and celebrated his heritage with his involvement in the Scottish pavilion at Folkfest and the pipe band community in Saskatchewan, as well as encouraging his daughters interests in highland dance and playing the bagpipes. The family was incredibly proud of the courage and tenacity in which Jim handled the last few years as health issues arose. This showcased his strength. Jim was loved and will be missed and remembered.
Please join the family in honouring Jim’s life at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Saskatoon) at 2pm on Saturday, October 14th.
