Jeremy Thomas Patterson (Nov. 2, 1983 – Oct. 21, 2023)
Jeremy died peacefully Saturday morning surrounded by his loving family. Taken too soon by cancer, he will be grieved deeply and remembered fondly by all who knew him. Those fortunate to be part of his life will dearly miss his warm humour and his gentle, loving presence.
Jeremy shone a clear and bright light, felt by all in his world. He had an incredible depth of vision and compassion, often expressed through his wide range of creative gifts and pursuits. A passionate and eclectic music fan, Jeremy was forever exploring new music and sharing it with friends. Constantly reading and learning, Jeremy was deeply knowledgeable about film, music, art, pop culture, history, and world events. A social justice advocate to the core, he spoke up in support of oppressed and marginalized groups in countless places and ways. A deeply ethical and caring soul, he was equally perceptive and wise. His uplifting presence will be sorely missed in a world needing informed and engaged advocates for justice and peace. His final request of us all was to “love each other,” and, “love others.”
Jeremy was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and raised in Jarvis, Ontario. He graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, having taken film and religious studies. He later studied printmaking and letterpress at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After meeting Ember Welsch at summer camp in 2005, they married in May of 2012, moving to Lincoln, Nebraska in the summer of 2013, where they have been raising their young family.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Ember, their three beautiful children, Ada, Burton, and Charley; his parents, Gary and Mary Jo Patterson, his sister Naomi (Justin) Patterson Mahon, and niece and nephew Amelia and Luke. He was a beloved son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle to Naomi and Matthew. He also leaves behind many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27 at Cooper Funeral Home,19 Talbot St. W., Jarvis, Ontario from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 28 at St. James United Church, 150 Colborne St S., Simcoe, Ontario. Please consider wearing a face mask, and your favourite novelty or band t-shirt, which Jeremy would love (he likely had enough of both to clothe us all). A second service will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska and will be announced when details are available.
