Surrounded by the deep love of her family, Jeannine peacefully entered into the arms of our Lord and joined the communion of saints in Heaven on October 3, 2023 after an extremely difficult illness.
Jeannine was the beloved spouse of Ted, love of her life, and shining beacon of light and love in his life for over 53 years. Together they created a loving home rooted in faith. They passed this gift throughout the generations to their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. Cherished mother to Jacqueline (Doug McLeod), Danielle (Tim Fenech), and Noelle (Miguel Gonzalez).
Exceptional and adored mémé to Christian, Connor, Jillian and Avery McLeod; Ava and Sutton Fenech; and Samantha, Lucas, and Nathan Gonzalez. Her grandchildren were her world and she will forever be a gift in their lives. Dearest sister (sister-in-law) of five siblings and their spouses, and many cherished brothers and sisters-in-law. Beautiful gift in the lives of numerous nieces and nephews, wonderful friends, and soul-sisters. Reunited with her beloved parents Jean-Paul and Jeannette (Rivait) Lefaive, and Ted’s parents Ross and Dorothy Bourgard.
Jeannine and Ted were married in 1970 following Jeannine’s 1969 graduation from Hôtel-Dieu School of Nursing where she was class president. As Ted pursued his law career, Jeannine began her 45-year nursing career at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital for the next 2 years where she was head nurse in the newly established isolation unit. Moving back to Windsor, Jeannine then worked at Met Hospital in the ER and then the IV team for the next several years. Beginning in 1988 Jeannine started a 25-year career at Canadian Blood Services first as a staff nurse, then as national trainer, and over the next 15 years as Regional Manager of blood collection for Southwestern Ontario, supervising over 60 employees.
With uncompromising faith in the Lord, Jeannine served her community with compassion and dedication throughout her adult life. As a parishioner of St. Gregory and then Good Shepherd parishes she acted as Eucharistic Minister at Mass and to the hospital-bound, and an active member of the Health and Safety and Funeral Committees and Catholic Women’s League. Jeannine’s devotion to her faith was unwavering and inspiring.
Jeannine and Ted were avid travelers, visiting throughout Canada and the US, Europe, the Caribbean, Colombia, China, Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia. They also loved spending time together at their Fort Myers home. Jeannine’s love of golf included many accomplishments – two holes-in-one, and as a Beach Grove member, she was 2020 Super Senior Ladies’ Club Champion, and 2021 and 2022 Ladies’ Director’s Cup Champion.
A heartfelt thank you to Vickie, Jenny, and all the exceptional VON nurses who delivered the same nurturing care that Jeannine provided over her nursing career.
May the love Jeannine modeled throughout her entire life and career provide strength and encouragement to all of us as we grieve her loss and celebrate her life. Her faith, grace, strength, and perseverance are an incredible example to anyone facing adversity. All glory be to God that our dear Jeannine is now at peace.
