Roy 1934 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
ROY, John M. passed away in the Perth Hospital, Perth Ontario, on March 23, 2024. John is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah (Bass Lake), and his loving son, Daniel Laurence Roy (Ottawa). John is predeceased by his first wife, Phyllis Roy (Montgomery), and his parents, Sarah (Stenson) and Horace Roy. John was the youngest and last surviving of his sisters, Fern, Sylvia, Andrea, and Rita, and of his brothers, Lawrence, Ivan, Stenson, Rene and Clement. John loved his countless nieces and nephews, both on the Roy side, and on the Montgomery side, and also his son’s friends.
John enjoyed a long career at Bell Canada, and volunteered for many years with the Civitan Club. While living in Smiths Falls, it was not uncommon after summer suppers for John to have any neighbourhood kids pile in to the convertible and he took them all to Dairy Queen where he treated everyone. Each Winter, John made a neighbourhood rink in the vacant lot across the street. He mounted speakers on the telephone pole there and played music to skate to.
John retired early enough to live his fantasy of a long life at the lake, nature watching and making wood crafts and cottage chairs, making maple syrup, doing calligraphy for fun and for community projects, and camping, wind-surfing, swimming, and canoeing in the summer. John enjoyed downhill skiing, and then kick-sledding and skating on the winter ice. John excelled at a host of other activities which often resulted in artful, hand-made contributions to neighbours and friends.
Born in Quebec, John was a life-long Montreal Canadiens fan. Living here in the valley, he would watch Ottawa Senators games if Montreal wasn’t playing. John was a great story teller who could weave family history into his entertaining tales. John was fluently trilingual: French, English, and Lanark County. John was quietly generous, with his personal gifts of money and hand-crafted items not publicly known. With John’s passing, the world has lost a man of strength, faith, and creativity, who contributed to the betterment of his community.
We are very grateful to the many friends who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss.
Debbie and Dan would like to extend their heart-felt gratitude to the highly-skilled and caring staff, nurses and doctors who administered care to John at the Perth and Smith Falls District Hospital and Kingston General Hospital. Special thank you to Dr. Gauthier.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 95, Smiths Falls, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home. Online condolences available at www.lannin.ca
