Jean Golemba
May 31, 1929 – May 9, 2024
Jean May (Winter) Golemba was born May 31, 1929 on a farm in the St. Joseph de Dauphinais District South West of Ituna to Joyce McConnell of Ituna and Thomas Winter from Scotland.
She lived with her grandparents, Wilbert and Caroline McConnell, on a farm 3 miles West of Ituna. She received her education at Ituna school, completing Grade 12 in 1948, then attended Moose Jaw Normal School in 1948 / 1949. Her first teaching position was at Ravine school (North of Leross, Sk.) where she taught grades 1-8 from 1949 to 1951.
On October 28, 1951 she was united in marriage with Edward Golemba at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna. All of their married life they resided on a farm 6 miles SW of Ituna in the St. Joseph’s district. They were blessed with two children, Marvin (1952) and Rita (1955). In 1959 Jean continued with her teaching career at St. Joseph de Dauphinais, Grades 1-8, until June 1961, when the students were bussed to Ituna school. She then taught in Ituna, Grade 1, for 25 years, a total of 30 enjoyable and rewarding years in the teaching profession, cherishing visits with former students over the years.
Jean was a charter member of the Lioness Club for 25 years holding all the executive positions, then became a member of the Lions Club until it dissolved. She was also a member of the CWL for 5 years and was active in the church, helping at funerals and perogy making bees. She enjoyed yard work, gardening, baking and knitting. Jean cherished time spent with her family and friends. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She enjoyed country music, reading, word-find puzzles and playing Yahtzee.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years Edward Golemba (2017), brother Gordon Ivey (2017), mother Joyce (McConnell – Winter) Ivey (1993), father Thomas Winter (1979), step-father Douglas Ivey (1974) and her grandparents, Wilbert & Caroline McConnell (1962) to whom Jean was eternally grateful for raising her sister and herself.
She is survived by her son Marvin (Maryann) Golemba of Ituna and daughter Rita (Garry) Flichel of Battleford; grandsons Joshua (Laurel) Golemba and their daughters Kallie & Alyssa of Balgonie; Colin (Sarah) Golemba and their children Everly, Max & Ace of Saskatoon; Derrick (Jennifer) Golemba and daughter Kaylee of Ituna; and granddaughter Lacey Paulsen of Edmonton; sister Marguerite (John) Rehm; brother Lorne (Ida) Ivey; sisters-in-law Denise Ivey and Lucy Golemba and many nieces and nephews.

Sometimes, a mom means understanding, encouragement and guidance.
But always, a mom means love.
